Lilah's POV

I turned around with an ever-growing pit of dread in my stomach.

There Peter was. Just standing in the doorway, arms crossed and staring at the both of us. Miles' voice spoke up from behind me, "How long were you there for? You know it's not nice to eavesdrop."

I turned around and looked at him with my eyebrows raised, mouthing the words, "Really?" That was the worst thing he could've said. I needed to teach Miles to be better at this.

"Long enough. Miles..." He paused and moved his eyes back to me. "Do me a favor and just wait in the living room for a second. I need to have a talk with Lilah."

Shit.

Pardon my french but, he definitely knows. The pit of dread that had grown in my stomach was now sprouting up towards my throat. It was growing at an incredibly fast rate.

Miles stepped out from the room, but not before he flashed me a small 'sorry' smile. I can't believe he just listened and did what he said. Peter closed the door after he walked out and just looked at me.

It was a long silence before I spoke up, "What do you need to talk about? We should probably get back to your project before it's too late for you to get back home. It's already 8."

He ran a hand through his messy brown hair. His brown eyes hiding under low-held eyebrows. Why did he look so tall all of a sudden? Quoting my words from the top of the Empire State Building, he said, "Don't pretend like you don't know, silly."

I dropped my head into my hands. I didn't want to be here anymore. I heard his voice right above me. "Hey, it's fine. It was unfortunate that Miles came. But I would've found out eventually."

I looked up at him. He had a small and extremely stupid smile on his face. Acting like this was no big deal. My identity was the only thing keeping me distant from everything that Peter involves himself in. Now I have nothing as a barrier. I wasn't in control anymore.

I felt my emotions getting the better of me. I had to leave right now.

Thankfully I hadn't had enough time to change out of my suit, so I was still wearing it underneath my clothes. From memory, I knew that my bag was a few feet away, where my mask was.

I shot a web towards the bag and ripped it open taking the mask out. Peter took up almost the entire doorway, but I easily slipped under his arm and slammed it shut. I tied the bedroom doorknob to a closet doorknob so he couldn't open it.

I went into the bathroom and changed. I was getting out of here, no matter what Peter wanted to 'talk' about. I heard him banging on the door, but I ignored it. I walked into the living room and saw Miles staring up at me.

Opening the balcony doors, I looked back at him. "I will help you. But not today. I have to get out of here."

He nodded, looking guilty. "I understand."

I walked over, now feeling guilty myself. "Hey, don't feel bad. Peter's tricky and would've found out about it eventually. Just sooner than I would've liked."

I then heard the bedroom door fall off its hinges and saw Peter run out of the bedroom. His face was a mixture of emotions, the biggest being regret. But I left so I didn't have to hear what he wanted to say to me.

I tugged on the mask, tugged on my hood, and ran towards the railing of the balcony. I lept off of the metal bars and dived towards the ground. I realized within a matter of seconds that I hadn't had enough time to tie my hair out of my face, so it whipped around my head as I flipped through the sky.
