Back to the beginning:
21.02.18Jun waved his hands as soon as he spotted Yunhee’s figure from far. A small smile appeared on his face as he approached Yunhee.
“Should we go to that cafe?” he asked.
Yunhee hummed in response.
“You took 20 minutes to come, whereas this café is just a 5 minute walking distance from your place. I’m the one who traveled 45 minutes”, Jun mumbled in a voice so low that Yunhee didn't even hear him nor did he glance at Yunhee. He was looking at the sky, the clouds and the surroundings as they walked to the café.
“The weather is weird today. Sometimes the sun is up; sometimes it rains..” he kept on speaking on his own.
“Jun?” Yunhee stopped on her feet where Jun had proceeded some meters ahead.
He looked back at her. “Y-yes?”
“Why did you travel 45 minutes to reach here?”, she asked, still not showing any other expression on her face other than calm.
“Why? W-why.. because it’s closer to your place and isn’t it easier for you to—”
“Why would you do that? Why would you always try to make things easier for me when it’s actually getting harder?”
Jun lost words. “I- I’m making things harder for you? I didn’t do anything like that.. did I.. did I hurt you by any chance?”
Yunhee avoided his gaze perfectly, when he tried to make eye contact. But it was evident that she too, was not totally sure about her own feelings towards him. Resting all these facts aside, she decided to put it on Jun, at least which seemed the most reasonable thing to do at that moment.
“You developed some feelings for me.. didn’t you?” Yunhee asked.
Jun looked at her while a warm wave of shock traveled through his shoulder to his head. “I.. how.. “, he stuttered as if even after staying in Korea for five years, his vocabulary was blank.
“Why don’t you answer me? Am I right then? Tell me, Jun, was it my fault? Did I give you the wrong signs and made you fall for me aimlessly?”
Jun looked at her as his eyes stung. Why are all her words coming to Jun so painful? He didn’t do anything wrong though. He had just liked her from the very beginning. How come he deserves to be hurt here?
“Jun, you need to stop liking me—”
“Why?” he spoke up. “Why do I need to stop liking you?”
“Because you and I are different. And I’m not the right girl for you—”
“Who are you to decide what’s right and what’s wrong for me? Why do you even care if it hurts me?” Jun didn’t bother holding back, as his eyes brimmed.
“because it’s painful that I can’t love you back!” Yunhee closed her eyes after muttering the words. The streets weren’t crowded and nobody was actually there to see or hear them.
“Did I.. did I ask you to love me back? Did I ask you to reciprocate my feelings or anything? Did I even confess? No! I didn’t give you any pressure of what was going on in my mind. Then why are you—”
“Because I can’t sleep sound at night knowing that someone on this Earth is going through some pain because of me!” Yunhee shouted, still trying her best to not let the teardrops fall.
Jun looked at the ground and smiled. “I was just a person on Earth. I was just a Chinese teacher, wasn’t I?”
“That’s not what I mean..”
