Warning: This book explores some more adult themes (no, not like that) that would not have been included in a kid's show. If this bothers you, please do not read. Thank you.

Also I will be changing some characters' ages: you will be 15(book 1)/16(book 3); Katara is 15/16; Sokka is 16/17; Aang is still 12/13 because his personality matches his age yk?; Toph is also staying is 12/13 and Zuko will also be 16/17 (I know technically he's older than Sokka in the show but it feels weird to have an 18 year old chasing after Aang)

So that's all the announcements for now. And if I see anyone hating on my wife, I will boot you off this story faster than your dad left to get the milk, okay? Okay.

[The events in this chapter do not take place in the actual show, but would occur sometime just after the episode 'Imprisoned'.]

"I can't believe we're wasting time like this," a young man grumbled for the umpteenth time.

Three teenagers walked side-by-side through the crowded streets of a lively market. The oldest, who had been the one complaining, stood on the left. He had blue eyes and brown hair tied back in a ponytail. He donned a Water Tribe outfit and there was a boomerang strapped to his back.

The second oldest was the only girl in the group and she walked on the right. Like her brother she wore Water Tribe clothes and had the same bright blue eyes. Her hair was tied back in a plait and two hair loops framed her face.

In the middle was the youngest of the trio, and he looked nothing like his two companions. He was bald with grey eyes and a blue arrow tattoo on his forehead. His robes were orange and yellow, the Air Nomad colours. He was the one to respond to the other boy's statement.

"Appa's tired, Sokka," Aang said. "He's been flying for almost a day. He deserves a break. We might as well check out the village while he rests."

"Oh, yes, because there's plenty of useful things to be checked out here!" Sokka exclaimed sarcastically. "Like this lovely seashell! And this incredible painted rock! Or this fantastic, uh... what is this, exactly?"

He was looking confusedly at a stall full of feathery contraptions guarded by a pinch-faced woman.

"It's a feather duster made from viperlark feathers," she answered sharply. "Two silver pieces for one."

"Oh, that sounds amazing, but it's not quite what we're looking for. Thank you, bye!" Sokka slung his arms around his friends' shoulders and guided them away from the stall. Once they were out of earshot he left out a breath of relief, dropping his arms back to his sides. "Yeah, this is a waste of time. We should just head back to the forest and wait for Appa to refresh or whatever. There's nothing interesting here."

"Come on, Sokka, don't be so- hey!" Katara started to reprimand her brother for being rude, when she suddenly collided with a figure striding in the opposite direction. "Whoa!"

The person didn't even bother glancing over their shoulder as Katara stumbled slightly. Sokka helped his sister regain her balance and glared at the stranger, eyeing the sword, bow and arrow quiver strapped to your back warily.

But Katara wasn't about to let it go. She pushed away from her brother and called out to your retreating figure.

"Hey!" she shouted. "Watch where you're going!"

You wheeled around, your dark eyes burning straight through her. Or rather, eye. Your left eye was concealed by a black eye patch, but your right was a deep green. You had long h/c hair with a braid at the front and a green bandanna covered your forehead. A pair of big golden hoop earrings hung from your earlobes.
