It was a new year and the start of the summer rush. That meant it was our busiest time of year and all the rowdy families would soon be arriving. Lucky us. Not much had changed since last year in terms of staff. Most of the staff were still working here and no new staff had arrived. The only change was Liam who now worked for Kenneth. I still saw him every day and often I'd do then some favours.
Over the past year I had grown to like Joyce a lot more. When she started I was a bit sceptical about her but now I thought she was decent. Don't get me wrong I still think she's a bit boring and too formal but I'm willing to work for her.
After my drunk evening with Mateo, where I actually wanted him to rail me, our relationship had blossomed into a much more flirty one. We were far from being official but we both took active part in flirting.
Lastly Joyce had changed our uniform colour to a hideous green which was very bad news for my washing. I don't know what was wrong with my washing machine but it drained most of the colour out of them and onto my white bed sheets. Now I had very pale green shirts and bright green bedding. Hooray.
This morning I was at the pool bar taking mental notes of familiar and unfamiliar faces. So far I hadn't seen any old faces yet but I figured that was because it was still early. However I did see a knew family. It consisted of a short stubby man who resembled Penfold a gorgeous tall blond woman and a teenage boy probably about 17.
They walked around the pool looking disgusted and then placed down their towels on some sunbeds. It was against the rules to do that but by the looks on their faces it didn't look like they were staying for long anyway so it didn't really matter. They quickly marched back into the building. I had a feeling they were either going to complain or straight up check out. Suddenly I felt a pair of hands quickly grip my waist. I yelped.
"Morning" Mateo purred. Over the past year Mateo had made a rather annoying habit of doing that and even though he had done it a million times I still wasn't used to it. I turned round to face him. His face was very close to mine and his hands were still on my waist.
"I've told you to stop doing that so many times"I wanted to be firm but I couldn't help but smile. He looked really good this morning with his white vest.
"Why? You no like my hands here" he teased slowly moving them off me.
"I didn't say that" I grabbed his hands and moved them back. We could've stood there all day and we probably would've if it wasn't for a loud splash and thud that came from behind me. I quickly whipped my head round and saw the floor cleaning machine in the pool and Jesus unconscious next to it. He was very lucky he didn't fall in the pool as well other wise he would've be fried like a piece of chicken. The motor was still running for the machine and the surface of the pool was covered with a white steam.
"Oh god" I exclaimed. Me and Mateo ran over to the scene. I went over to unplug the machine whilst Mateo picked Jesus off the floor and placed him on a nearby sunbed. The plug really didn't want to come out of the socket. I had to put my foot against the wall and push with all my might. Eventually I came out with a satisfying click. I was actually exhausted after.
"Gaby!" I heard Mateo shout at me. My head turned towards the voice but instead of seeing Mateo I saw a sunbed on fire. Literally on fire!
"Jesus Christ!" I shrieked. I quickly darted past it and managed to not go up in a blue light. Mateo immediately grabbed me next to him protectively. He was so sweet.
"What do we do now?" Mateo asked casually. I looked at him in disbelief.
"Well we need to put it out you great twat!" I stressed. "Extinguisher! We need an extinguisher!" The pair of us quickly ran off to try and find said extinguisher. That wasn't easy. It was a huge four star hotel that didn't have a single fire extinguisher in sight.
