It was finally a new month, February. Finally, half-term was getting closer and closer. Nobody liked sitting down in a classroom doing boring lessons like History, Geography and Math. Finally, it'd all be over soon. But for now, there was only a 40 minutes break from these lessons, and this time slot was Lunch. Due to the effects of Covid, the time that this school had for Lunch was reduced to 40 minutes. The time for Lunch was between 12:30 and 1:10. Nobody knows why, but everyone was annoyed with it. At Lunch, Year 8s came into the Lunch Hall last, at 12:45. If you discounted the amount of time you would have to wait in the line, you would only have 25mins to eat your Lunch, do what you wanted and arrive in advance to the next lesson. But thing is, the 25mins is more like 15mins, as the Lunch Line takes almost forever to get through. However, over time, the Year 8s got used to this short amount of time, and tried to get everything they needed done in the first 15mins of Lunch, where they were forbidden to enter the Lunch Hall. And this was exactly what The Three Travel Buddies were doing.
Jessica and Angel were walking down one of the free basketball pitches. But then they were stopped in their tracks. Just in front of them, Jay was being used as a rope for a game of Tug-Of-War.
For some peculiar reason, everything bad happens to Jay. Or in other words everything bad gets inflicted on Jay. It's just his luck. I mean, who could forget that time where he smashed into a lamppost, or got stuck in train doors or pushed into a driveway? I mean, I certainly can't. Those images will be in my mind for a long, long time. For an example of inflicted harm on Jay, Dave, for some reason, just genuinely finds pleasure in strangling Jay (Yes, literally!). I mean, he doesn't strangle him so hard to absolute breaking point, but he does do this very often. He likes to pretend that he's just giving him a nice 'hug' but honestly, that's not what I would call it. But honestly, I don't think Dave means to do this, I think he actually means what he says by these just being 'hugs' , but really, he's misjudged the forces a bit, his 'hugs' will probably give Jay breathing problems in the future.
Anyway, Jay was being used as a Tug-Of-War rope. On one side was Dave, Vivian and Davinia, and on the other side was Evelyn, Samson and Hanna.
"Jay, are you ok?" Jessica asked.
"Do I look ok to you?" Jay replied.
"I'll take that as a no then".
The three on each side continued to tug on Jay's arms. I swear, with more force, his arms could've been severely dislocated. After a bit more tugging, Matilda then came over. She inspected the situation for a while, but then pulled Jay backwards by his backpack. The six loosened their grip on Jay and he fell backwards onto Matilda.
"Thanks Matilda....." Jay said, relived but still slightly dazed.
"Now is not the time for gratitude Jay, please, get off me would you?"
"Right, sorry".
Jay then got up, and Matilda then did the same.
"Round two!!" Vivian shouted.
They then grabbed Jay by the backpack and dragged him off into the distance. Jessica and Angel followed on, but Matilda thought she had done enough saving for one day, and left.
The six were now tugging on Jay's backpack. But then, SNAP! The zipper and Jay's backpack broke off, and now his books were loosely hanging from his bag.
"Damn!" he shouted. "Now look at what you've done....My parents are going to get me over this..."
I guess they would, but honestly you need a better bag Jay, you've had this one since Year 7.
"Well, I'll help you try to fix it" Vivian offered.
Jay said nothing, but Vivian took this as a yes. He took out a piece of string, and tried to tie the two zippers back on. When he stabilized the two zippers, he tried to fasten them back in place. He was able to put the two zippers back, but they weren't very strong, well, at least not as strong as they were before.
