Rejected, But Mine

The Run

Placed at the center of our campus, the library caters different needs of students and faculty members. For many it's not only a place to gather information but also a social place to connect with each other. For me, it's a place where I could get my work done with utmost concentration. It's earbuds in, outside world out. I barely get distracted with other thoughts, especially thoughts about one particular dimpled smile. Ok..I am back to thinking about him.

That's my new problem, well an issue that I like. My brain cells seem to be stuck on anything and everything related to him. Why am I so worked up today? Even though I came here to calm my nerves, why isn't working? Because my mate has asked me out. He says it's a date and has a surprise for me.

I've always wondered what's the big deal about going on a date. I've heard how young wolves brought the people they are interested in, on dates. Plern used to brag about it though. How Sam took her to the cinema, restaurants, malls, shopping..the list goes on. She always gloats what he bought for her, what they ate, or the movie they saw together. She never talks about how she felt while they went out. I wonder why? Khoafang is also no different, she wants the same. And unfortunately, Rome never talks about these things.

This will be my first ever date in my entire eighteen years of life, and I am really looking forward to the experience.

Yesterday night has been magical. We talked a lot. I blushed scarlet when he asked about my estrus period. It's natural for a mate to be well-informed about their mate's physiology. But the next day morning I was visited by Dr.Beam who is our royal physician who promptly did some primary checking and collected my blood samples.

He prescribed new suppressants and other supplements stating it's better than my old ones. He got to be true since most of us taking the medication suffered from slight dizziness and sometimes fever. I cried in the showers thinking how thoughtful my mate is.

Sadly I didn't get a glimpse of my mate today morning. He left a note saying he has to be at the headquarters for some urgent needs. Same goes with P'Phana and P'Bright. That leaves Wayo and Rome with me. P'Bright and Rome shifted back to the employee quarters at the palace grounds. It's a huge blessing that I can meet him everyday.

Wayo and Rome clicked the first instant they met. They were so similar in their personalities, specifically their bluntness. I concluded that it's the biggest mistake that I introduced them to each other because after the fifteen minutes car ride to the campus, whatever innocence left in me is lost, and I urgently need to clean my ears.

I shook my head and checked the time. There is one more hour left before he picks me up. Our last class got cancelled today, and my first instinct was to call my mate but later I decided against it. He said he has something important to attend. What if he is busy? Possibly in the middle of some meeting? I could use this time to do a little research needed for my assignment. Hence I ended up here in the library.

I raised my head and glanced at my two friends, Aim and Tew, who were seated a couple of feet away, were busily immersed in their respective work.

I once again check my watch for which I've lost count before getting back to my research. Before I could continue someone plopped in front of me with a groan.

"Man, this whole studying thing just sucks. In all likelihood, I'm not gonna graduate any time soon.", Rome says in a exhausted voice , brows furrowed.

I silently chuckle looking over his shoulders to see Khoafang with a similar expression on her face. She takes her seat next to Rome with a sullen face. Why does all hate school? I don't get it at all.

"Don't you have a date this evening?", Rome smirks as I nod.

"You do?", Khoafang gapes at me.

"Yes, around four.", I sigh. She is not letting this go.
