Unlike every morning at the palace, I was woken by a wailing siren and the sound of screaming as opposed to gentle sunlight and the soothing voices of my maids. Jade, who was the maid in my room jumped up. "Miss, you must get out of bed! Rebels are here!"
I was stunned for a second before slipping on my robe and slippers. Then I followed Jade to a safe room. Without thinking, I pulled Jade in with me. Luckily, a few other maids were in the room, so Jade didn't protest.
The royals were in a corner, but Daniel and Brielle were walking around the room, comforting everyone, which made me admire their selflessness.
I sat down with Mara and Selena. Minuites turned into hours and I realized that not all the Selected were there. "Guys, people are missing." I whispered.
"They are," Mara said. "They're probably just in another safe room."
I nodded, hoping what Mara said was the truth. "You girls need to get some sleep!" Lexia called. "Please, get a pillow and blanket and lay down on a cot."
Obediently, I grabbed a pillow and blanket. But instead of using them, I handed the items to Jade. "No miss, you need them!" She insisted.
After some arguing, I had the blanket and the cot while Jade slept with the pillow.
I woke up the next morning to find a few girls stirring around. Daniel saw me and walked over. "Is it bad?" I mumbled.
"Sadly, yes I think. And the missing girls never showed up." He ran his hand through his honey-blonde hair.
After about two hours, we were finally able to leave. I was glad to stretch my legs and be back in the palace.
However, all the color in my face vanished when I saw Sonya's dead body.
