At the ball, nothing was short of exquisite. The decorations were mixed hues of amber, gold, red, orange, bronze, and yellow and finger foods were on the most intricate displays. "This is beautiful!" Selena gushed.
"And the food is amazing." Mara said in between bites of a peice of shrimp. We all laughed.
There were impressive guests attending the ball. "Hello, Ladies." I heard a voice say. It wasn't any of the royals. I turned around to see Carson Zimmer, a very famous and attractive actor our age. Selena looked calm, while Mara's eyes were practically bulging out of her head.
"Oh my goodness! I'm such a big fan!" She squealed. "I love your movies so much!"
"Thank you, lady..." Carson said, searching for her name.
"Mara." Said Mara. "Pleasure to meet you."
"You too," The two walked off in a different direction, intently discussing something.
I reached for some shrimp cocktail, which like everything at the palace, was scrumptious. A butler scooped by with a tray full of golden, bubbling drinks. "Champagne?" He asked.
I considered this. I'd never so much as taken a sip of alchohol, mainly because it was expensive. Maybe I should try it. "Sure." I reached for a glass and found it to have a nice flavor.
It was highly obvious to me of who would be the next to be eliminated. Morgan Oster, a Three from Sonage was a wreck. I felt bad for her, she was in a corner and seemed extremely flustered.
The night went on and I spoke to a few guests, some including aristocrats, and I even met a famous popstar, Mille Jay, who turned out to be super friendly.
Music began to play from a talented quartet and Daniel made an effort to dance with all of the Selected. I patiently waited my turn and continued talking to people.
After what seemed like an eternity, I heard a framiliar voice. "Would you like to dance?" Daniel asked.
"Of course." I'd never danced before, so I must have looked a bit weird on the dance floor. Daniel guided me, and an occasional twirl or dip. It had to admit that it was a bit fun. I wondered what life would be like at the palace. There would be balls all the time, and parties. Maybe I could get dance classes so I didn't look like a dying duck.
The party eventually ended and so did most of the guests. Carson hung around, still talking with Mara. Everything seemed nice until I heard a unpleasant noise.
The rebel alarm.
