A Special Day

"Aren't you supposed to be helping out now?"

"Are you shooing me away, Mi Corazon?"

Two teens were in a room together, the girl seated by the windowpane while the boy occupied the bed.

"If you're escaping your responsibilities, I'll tell Abuela Alma." Clara jested his way in a drawled out tone.

Her friend Camilo grimaces, "I'm done with my work in town anyway, just don't tell Abuela I made a detour here instead of going to Casita." He told her.

The two friends, now 15 years old, were in Clara's room.

In Clara's defense, she was just preparing her present for Antonio's Gift Ceremony tonight. At that moment, Camilo came in with a tired grin.

He told her he needed a break before going back to Casita to help in the decorations. Usually weak for her friend, Clara sighed and lets him in.

Thus, here they were.

"Fine, fine~ Let's just go to Casita later. I was planning on helping out anyway." Clara said, watching Camilo grin in triumph. "Thanks a lot, Cariño." He said in reply.

"I'm doing this just for little Toñito, not for you Hermoso. Teo is also super excited for him." The girl retorted at the boy with an eye roll.

The sweet child Antonio Madrigal is getting his gift today, the ceremony being one of the events that was looked forward to later tonight. Clara was sure that he'd get a special gift just meant for him.

"Speaking of, where's Teo and Abuelo Marcelo?" Camilo asked, recalling that Clara was the only one at home right now.

"Abuelo is out helping in town. Teo is playing with the other kids." Clara answered him.

The Martinez family, after the tragic year of losing Luciano and Theresa, picked themselves up.

Abuelo helped out in town, busied himself with work. Clara took care of Mateo when he was younger before turning to work in the library to help her Abuelo. A majority of the household chores still lie on Clara's shoulders.

Despite the busyness of life, the Martinez's were steady and happy with their current life.

"I see... Oh, is this your gift for Antonio?" Camilo drawled out, poking a wrapped up box by her nightstand.

"Yes it is, don't use your filthy hands to touch it." Clara swatted his hands away from her carefully wrapped present for the little boy.

"What did you get my brother?" Camilo asked, rubbing his 'injured' hand. "Toñito told me he wanted the few books he saw in the library. So I bought copies of those." Clara explained.

"Sometimes, I think you love my brother more than me."

"I'm not sure of that but he is my favorite Madrigal."

"The betrayal!!" Camilo, like the dramatic person he is, clutched on his heart in pain as he fell back onto the bed. Clara simple rolled her eyes at him.

It was no secret that she was fond of Antonio. She watched the little one grow up beside her own little brother. The two little boys were best friends and stuck to each other like how she and Camilo were two peas in a pod.

She could never forget the sweet innocent children when they didn't know their older sibling's best friend's names either. It was a very amusing, albeit embarrassing, moment.
