In a quiet living room, there sat the figures of Marcelo Martinez and Camilo Madrigal, across each other.
"Well, that is quite something." Marcelo mused out, scanning the rather nervous Camilo with slight amusement.
His friends' grandson had asked his permission and advice in courting his granddaughter. Well, at least he was being polite and respectful to his opinions. It's a good sign.
"I've watched you grow up, always running off with my granddaughter's hand in yours." Marcelo chuckled out as he smiled, "I have expected this much, and even more from now on." He said.
Camilo's eyes widen, "Then – I can..." he trailed off, slightly shocked. Marcelo nodded, "You can, Camilo. I have faith in you." He told him.
"Thank you Abuelo! I promise to make her happy." Camilo exclaimed in pure joy. Marcelo lets out a laugh, "I know you will hijo. You've liked her for so long now." He jested.
He obviously saw how the boy in front of him fell deeper and deeper for his granddaughter. Of course, he saw his granddaughter move her heart closer and closer to the boy as well.
Camilo coughed through his blush, "Well, is there any way for me to court Clara? Teo mentioned a tradition." He asked the old man.
Marcelo hummed, "I see, Teo had a hand in this too." He mumbled before grinning. "The Martinez courting tradition is simple. We offer Alstroemeria flowers to our beloved to show that we love them." He explained.
"Alstroemeria flowers..." Camilo said, thinking about the flower. It sounded familiar, maybe from Isabela, but he wasn't sure what it looked like.
Marcelo chuckled at the puzzlement, "It has a lot of meanings in Floriography, but it always falls into one word. 'Devotion'." He decided to further explain the context.
"My own Abuelo proposed to my Abuela with Alstroemerias, it just formed itself into a family tradition." He said to the young boy in front of him.
"And knowing our Clarita, she likes sentiments. As long as you spend time and effort preparing the confession, she'll be touched." Marcelo then added.
"Right, I'll do just that." Camilo said, a game plan forming in his head. He thinks that he can have a start now.
Marcelo sees the boy in thought and couldn't help the sincere smile slipping on his lips. Yes, this is the kind of future he was hoping for.
For his dear Clarita to love and be loved by someone who gives her his everything.
"Thank you Abuelo." Camilo said as he stood up. Marcelo smiled and stood up as well, "Of course. The Martinez's always supports the Madrigals." He joked as he walked the guest out.
They reach the entrance door, and Marcelo smiled at Camilo. "I'm really rooting for you, hijo. Take care of her." He said to him.
Camilo felt touched, "I'll make sure of it." He swore before bidding his farewell and walking off. Marcelo closed the door, pleased and content.
Camilo walked a few steps away, and after turning a corner, he lets out a loud cry. "YES!!" he shouted out with his fist lifted up in the sky.
A few passersby looked his way in confusion, but Camilo paid no mind to them, too busy basking in the happy mood he was in.
He got Abuelo Marcelo's approval and knows their family courting tradition! This is a good sign, a great first step! Let's keep this momentum up!!
