"You musn't go in there!" She yelled at me. I came back to here worried.

"Why?" I asked. She told me she lived in an old estate. Not a castle estate. She meant like a home for old people that need caring. I took her to the house.

"Emily." One of the care takers said. "It's not like you wandering around." Sarah put her finger against her lip as saying shh. I got the message. She didn't want anyone to know her real name.

The care taker took Sarah to her room. "I'll only be here for five minutes and I have to go to school." I told the care taker. She closed the door.

Sarah sat down in a chair and pulled out her locket. It was an eye locket. "Finally." She said relieved. "It's your turn to keep it!" She put the locket in my palms. "Keep it safe. Don't ever show it to anyone."

"No, I can't." I tried giving it back to her but she didn't want it back.

"You must have it!" She continued. "There is treasure hidden in that house, and only you have the power to unlock it. It's a dark house. And you also have to beware the black bird! Beware the black bird!"

I felt creeped out. So I took the locket. "Thanks." I said, "Well, i'm late for school... so.... i'll come back later."

Sarah didn't reply but I left anyway. I put the locket on, I was actually planning to leave it there. Once I got to school Mrs. Andrews, put me next to Fabian.

"Why are you late?" She asked me in a demanding voice. Was my excuse even a good one? It was my first day so I decided to make up a good excuse.

"I was at the hospital." I shot back at her. Patricia looked at me with a stupid look. She knew I was lying.

"Alright, just make sure next time you advice me before you come late." She continued, "Take a seat next to Fabian, dear."

I looked at him and we smiled. There was something about him that I liked. I sat down next to Fabian.

"That's Joy's seat." Patricia said forcefully. "What's next you're going to take her life?"

Mrs. Andrew's eyes shot back at her. Mrs. Andrew's reacted the same way as Victor had reacted. "Joy has left." She said.

"Well, I don't believe that." She said back. "How come every time I ask about Joy the teacher's are always stuck. I know something is up. And i'm going to find out what it is!"

The bell rang and everyone got up. Patricia was the first to leave the door. I went to my locker. Fabian rushed next to me.

"Nina." He called me, "Don't listen to her, she's just being herself." I could tell he was trying to make conversation. So was I.

"Yeah, um..." I didn't know what to say. "I mean, I would've been worried also if my bestfriend dissapeared. It's just a misunderstanding." Nailed it. Now we had our first real conversation.

That night was the worst. I had the worst nightmare. I dreamt about Sarah and how she was telling me to beware the black bird. Victor came up with a stuffed black raven in his hand. I knew now what Sarah was talking about. She meant Victor's stuffed raven.

I woke up at night with feathers dropping on me. I opened my eyes and saw Patricia dropping the black feathers and mocking sarah: "Beware the black bird. Haha"

"What are you doing?" I asked her. And how did she know about Sarah?

"Nothing." She said and sat down, "You woke me up saying beware the black bird... Caw Caw Caw Caw." She was teasing me. She turned off the light and went back to sleep.

My light was still on. I decided to open the locket. Once I opened it, I saw an old picture of a woman.

"Sleeping with the light's on, Newbie?" Patricia said still teasing me. I got out my phone light to see the picture better. The woman was pretty. But who was she? Was it Sarah?

The next day I got ready for school. When I went down to the kicthen Patricia was laughing with Alfie and Jerome like she said the funniest thing in the world.

"Beware the black bird!" Patricia taunted me. What was her problem? Couldn't she just give it a rest? "Caw Caw!" Alfie made crow noises.

I sat down next to Fabian. "Don't listen to them, they're being idiots." He told me. He was actually smiling at me while he said that to me. I hoped it wasn't a habit. He was cute.

"Thanks." I said. I started eating breakfast. "I know."

Fabian looked at me like he was waiting for me to say something. Then Amber came through the door.

"Where's Mick?" She asked. Everyonr started exchanging laughes.

"He's with Mara to study." Jerome said. Amber's mouth shot open. Everyone laughed so she sat down.

"What? Are you jealous?" Patricia asked. I guessed Mick was Amber's boyfriend or her crush.

"There's nothing to be jealous of." She said very dull. Everyone knew she was jealous Mick was with Mara.

"So, Nina." Amber started. "I heard you lived with your Grandmother." Uh-Oh. I knew where this conversation was going to end up at. I nodded to her. "Then, were were your parents?"

See, I told you I knew where this was going to end up at. "My parents died in a car accident. But it was a long time ago." I replied.

"Seems like your Grandmother didn't like you." Patricia added, "I could see why. She wanted to get rid of you that's why she sent you here."

"Patricia!" Fabian yelled at her to shut her up. Unfourtunatly it didn't work.

"Well, it seems like i'm the only one that notices Joy is gone!" She yelled and left the room. I understood that she was upset about her friend Joy, but she didn't have to tease me

Fabian and I walked to school. "Look." Fabian started, "about Patricia... don't let her get to you. She's just going through a difficult time."

I noticed how Fabian would always talk about Patricia bugging me. Fabian cared about me?

"Yeah" I said, "I know, I understand."

Later that day in class Jerome, Patricia, and Alfie came up to me smiling.

"Look, i'm sorry about blaming you for all that's happpened." She said dissapointed. "So I wanted to welcome you properly. By passing the Anubis initiation."

Fabian looked at me like he didn't know what as going on. "What initiation?" He asked.

"Oh Fabian, you." Patricia fake laughed. "Everybody has done it." I knew she wanted to pull a prank. I went a long with it to see how much I can go through.

"Okay." I said smiling back at her so she can get the message. "Tell me about it after school."

I walked out of the class room to go to my next period when Fabian stopped me. "Nina." He said. "You don't have to do this."

"It's a prank that they made up, it doesn't take a genious to know." I said, "I just want to see what the initiation is." I said and closed my locker.

After school we sat at the dining table to hear what the initiaton was.

"You have to get the attic key from Victor's office. And at midnight you have to go to the attic and stay there and steal anything from there." She instructed.

What was the harm? Was she afraid I couldn't get past Victor's office? Wow. I could totally pass this with an A+++++.

"Let's do it right now." I ran up stairs to Victor's office and he had a case on the wall listing and labelying every key. I opened the case and got the key the said 'Attic'. I heard footsteps comming up. Probably Patricia. I looked out of the window and saw Victor comming up!

I panicked and accidentaly dropped Victor's raven or crow... whatever it was. Victor came through the door with an angry face.

"What are you doing?!"
