Rory woke up long before Charlotte and let her sleep a while longer. She was aware of Charlotte's consternation the past few days and knew when she'd wake up, she'd need all the energy possible to get through another day.

It was never easy fighting with the person you most cared about. And for Rory, her person was just down the hall. It began with pacing around the apartment. Whether it was moving stuff around or reorganizing, every time she thought she'd walk out to knock on Harley's door, she'd distract herself with something else. She couldn't even pick up her cell phone to call or text him except, it wasn't like he had called her either.

She was so worried she had upset him.

It only took several instances of losing her train of thought and encouraging thoughts until she finally decided that enough was enough. She had to go talk to him and apologize. Rory shouldn't have snubbed him off the way she did. She walked to his door and knocked with a shaky hand.

Nobody responded but the silence behind the door and figured he was asleep or just didn't want to talk to her. In Rory's mind, she felt like it was over. She had messed up and pushed away from the very person she liked more than anyone else.

Defeated, she whirled her head, ready to her door with a heavy blue heart. That was until she heard the door handle rattle behind her she spun back around and watched the door open to reveal a messy-haired Harley. It was like he had just woken up and rushed to the door. His eyes were eager and distraught, but halfway closed.

Rory instantly felt her heart stop or quicken. She couldn't tell. All she could focus on was Harley.

"I am so sorry." Rory let her head fall. "I don't know why I pushed you away. It wasn't fair for me to treat you that way. Instead, I— "

Harley had already pulled her right into his arms, in his own desperate and needy way. "Damn right you shouldn't have acted that way. You were a real brat. I was so upset and annoyed. Then you never even called or texted. I was up late last night waiting. You can't even imagine how worried I was. Rory, if something happened to you, I would have lost my mind."

"I'm sorry."

His arms tightened around her. Harley said nothing but just kept Rory in his arms until the relief subsided a bit and he could finally let go.

"Let's not forget I never noticed you coming back last night." He grabbed her shoulders and moved his eyes to examine her face. "Where were you?"

"My friend needed me. So I had to help."

"Friend?" his eyes focused.

"Charlotte," Rory clarified. "You and Sam met her at the restaurant."

"Oh, I remember her." Harley quickly went back to sulking. "So you two are pretty close?"

"Lately, yes." Rory's gaze wandered off towards the ground.

He scoffed. Rory wasn't sure if he heard him right. For a moment, she wouldn't have guessed that maybe...

She gave him a sideways glance. "Are you jealous of Charlotte?" It was a sincere question, but it sounded like she was teasing him.

He glanced at her for a moment, then crossed his arms. "You know she threatened me the day I met her."

"She was probably teasing you."

Harley rolled his eyes. "Oh, please."

Rory found it hard to contain her smile. "She's a good friend of mine. She's just a little protective."

"Shouldn't that be my job?" He mumbled under his breath.

"So you are a little jealous then?"

Rory couldn't contain the smile that snuck onto her face.
