Rory was already regretting her decision once she stepped on the plane. Sam sat beside her, giddy with the fact that it only took two days to convince her before she finally agreed to go. Surprisingly, he even hung around her during finals to make sure she ate and was healthy so she could do well in her classes.
In many ways, Sam was like a golden retriever. Lingering around her and making her laugh with silly antics. He was very carefree. And so far, he also kept his promise. There had been no sign of Harley which brought her relief. Turns out, he finished his finals early so he took a plane a day earlier.
They were almost about to arrive now that the announcement told them to prepare for landing.
"Rory, can you hold my hand?"
Rory looked down at his open palm.
"There is nothing more I hate about planes than the landing," He explained to her. "Please?"
Rory didn't argue and let him squeeze her hand for support. The plane descended and touched the ground with much speed, leaving the cabin rattling.
"I hate this," Sam winced out loud.
"It's alright," Rory began to reassure him. We're on the ground now.
Sam opened one eye to look around, making Rory laugh out after she unbuckled herself and got up to retrieve her bag from the overhead compartment.
Sam got out after her and helped her with her bag. Because they flew first class, they had their cubby and room to take their time and get off the plane. Rory was still amazed by it all. When Harley mentioned Sam was rich, she didn't know it was to the extent he was.
"Come on Rory, my dad sent a ride." He grabbed onto her hand and escorted them out of the plane with a quick thank you to the pilot crew.
"I can't wait to go home and see my family and eat!"
"You're more excited than I am."
"Don't you worry Rory," he said, placing an arm around her," I will keep my promise and make sure you enjoy this dinner. It's just a shame Charlotte couldn't come."
Charlotte stayed back to be with her parents like she already planned. Rory remembered to text her that she landed safely so that she wouldn't worry. Edmond also wished her good luck after he dropped by to visit her. It felt weird hanging out with him, knowing what he and Charlotte were fighting. But it was still Edmond. Although he did take the dye out of his hair and made it light brown again. He stopped by to wish her luck on her finals and that he hoped to see her again when she came back. Not once did Rory mention Charlotte. She figured she'd let them figure things out on their own time.
They walked outside the airport once they finally got their luggage from the conveyor belt. Sam grabbed her hand to lead her out through the crowd of people.
"I never thought I'd ever say I missed Colorado, but I sure did," Sam stretched out his arms as they waited for their ride to pull up. Eventually, a black SUV did.
"Woah," Rory gasped. She had never seen such a fancy car in her life.
"I'll put your things in the trunk, get inside."
Rory didn't hesitate to open the car door. The interior was entirely black leather, with light accents and a starlight headliner that lightly lit the inside.
"Good afternoon," the driver said back to her. It was a man around his forties, who grinned politely. He wore casual formal wear and a baseball cap. He seemed happy to have picked them up.
