The Third Strand//9-1-1 lonestar x Reader

𝐏𝐮𝐬𝐡

As it got closer to lunch time mateo turned to leave the room but y/n had stopped him by grabbing onto his arm softly "don't go"

"I'm just going to get you food" he chuckled turning to face her once again

"I don't need food" she shook her head trying to persuade him "I had crackers salami and cheese earlier from Lindsey's parents"

"That filled you up?"

"I ate a lot of it" she shrugged

"Fine" he went to go back to the chair he sat in previously "but if your hungry tell me and I'll get you something"

"Deal" she scooted on her bed so he had room "get over here"

With a chuckle he layed down next to her taking her into his arms, her face kissed against his chest as he kissed the top of her head playing with her hair. It was peaceful and quiet until Mateo spoke up  "Have you heard about how TK is doing"

"What do you mean"

When y/n made it to TK's room nurses were talking as they remade his bed

"God, look at him. So young." One stated looking at the other

"Kid's a hero too, apparently. Heard he got hurt saving a little boy" she quipped back

"He would have been better off if they'd never brought him back from that cardiac out in the snow." The taller one shook her head, that was when Carlos had walked in standing beside the girl

"Yep, now he gets to torture the friends and family for another three days."

"Three days? I've seen one go for three weeks."

"No kidding. In this state?"

"Yup. First year out of nursing school."

"Well, either way, at this point, it's a matter of when, not-" one of the stated as they turned around and noticed the two  "I... We didn't mean..."

"Dr. Patel will be by soon with an update. Excuse us."

And with that they left the room, y/n looked at TK as she spoke to carlos

"What the hell happened"

"He fell in the ice saving a boy that was stuck under it" carlos told her he put his hands in his pockets awkwardly

"Why did nobody tell me" she stepped closer to TK as she let a tear fall down her face silently

Mateo stood in the doorway he waited a moment before walking over and engulfing the girl in a hug when he spoke next his voice was quiet

"I got called in and need to head back to work" he kissed the top of her head "I'll be back here as soon as I can"

She nodded as she watched him leave

Y/n sat in the waiting room, Paul sat on one side of her, marjan the other and Navy next to her while carlos leaned against a pillar and tommy stood by Paul's side. Y/n stared at the floor until footsteps coming closer pulled her out of her trance, when she looked up she saw her dad walking in

"They're telling me that his body is trying to shut down." Owen rubbed his forehead "And they say it's because his heart stopped." Y/n's face dropped tears threatening to fall "But I don't think that's right, I think it's because mine did." He then pointed to marjan "You were right. I gave up. I quit. And it didn't... wasn't about ego... or pride. I wish it was. It was about fear. Our world imploded so spectacularly and everybody was looking to me to put it back together and... I was afraid I wouldn't be able to. This time. And so I ran away. Everything that's happening... it's my fault."
