Perry
The world around me is almost a blur as I run fast enough I feel as if I am teleporting in short bursts. The school building arrives quicker than I expect as the thoughts of what I have just seen replay in my mind. A silent prayer runs through my mind over and over to reach Charlotte in time.
I brush past many people, including Mrs. Winters and Violet, on my way to the gym. I arrive to the gym in time to see the twin-pires laying on the floor. Elnora's hand is around Charlotte's neck and I feel the darkest feeling rise in me.
This time the feeling is all mine.
Charlotte chokes against Nora's grip as Nora quips about asking Charlotte to scream for her. I grab Nora's arm, gaining her attention.
"Nobody likes a screamer."
Elnora is shocked as I throw an uppercut that causes her to stumble back. Another swing of my fist catches her as she skids across the floor.
"Listen Living Dead Girl, since there are no lockers around, I'll just have to send your skinny ass up the bleachers." I say.
Elnora hops to her feet, wiping blood from her lip. "Oh you little bastard. I'm going to drain you."
"Let's hope you're stronger than your brothers. I took both of them on at the same time and ended up on top." I say as the connotation hits me. "I mean, I fought them. They double-teamed me but I got the best—that sounds worse. Can we just fight?"
"First thing you should know. I don't fight fair." Elnora says. "I brought help."
Before I can ask what she means, something slams into me and I roll backwards onto my back. From my back, I watch as Zachary helps Nora regain her composure.
"Oh great!" I sigh.
The twin-pires are back on their feet as they help me up. Charlotte moves in my peripheral as Zach regards us with a smug grin.
My breath hitches as I feel my strength wane.
"You're looking a little ragged, Perry." Zach says. "I hit hard."
"I've been hit harder by a second grader." I say. "You're a vampire now?"
"Scared yet?" Zach asks.
"No. Actually, I can hit you as hard as I have always wanted to. I love this journey for us."
Zach snarls as he attempts to move towards us. Elnora grabs him by the shirt. "He's mine. You handle my brothers."
Zach is not thrilled by her demand but rushes towards us. A basketball catches my eye in the corner. Charlotte rushes over and grabs the ball launching it towards us. I reroute the basketball towards Zach with my mind.
The ball hits him square in the face, stunning him. The twin-pires rush him, taking him off his feet. Elnora moves closer and attacks me. I dodge her attacks, trying to stay ahead of her swings.
Elnora is quicker than a regular vampire. An energy bounces off her, as if her powers are being augmented in some way. I jump up onto one of the bleachers as she swings again.
Elnora cackles into the air. "Look who's running up the bleachers now!"
With a swiftness and gracefulness, I have never possessed, I flip over her head and land on the ground behind her. She turns as I twirl, kicking her in the face. Elnora flies up the bleachers, landing in the third row.
I bend down and retrieve the dagger from my leg. "Told you! I'll do whatever I need to do to keep everyone safe. It's what I do."
A strange feeling washes over me. My brain tells my feet to move, yet nothing happens. The dagger glows in my hand as something moves in my peripheral. I look over to see Charlotte with her hands in the air. Her eyes are glowing bright purple hue.
"Char?" I ask. "What are you doing?"
"Charlotte's not here." She says.
A whip of her hand sends me flying backwards against the floor of the gymnasium. The dagger never hits the ground as it flies into her hand. She examines the dagger before her eyes find me again.
"You really are magnificent. Truly." Charlotte says. "I had hoped to meet you under different circumstances but mortals have this saying about plans and their God."
The way Charlotte speaks is completely unlike her. She speaks as if she is someone older, someone a fair bit more regal. My eyes squint as something flickers against her skin, the visage of another woman. It is too fast for me to get a clear look at the woman.
The twin-pires rush towards her but stop completely. The two fly backwards and slam against the brick wall behind them. Zach helps Elnora to her feet as they join Charlotte.
"Do you know who I am, child?" Charlotte asks. "Tsk, your pitiful grandmother failed you just as she did her daughter."
My body numbs before a stinging feeling spreads through my body. "Tituba?" I ask.
"Yes. I feel we will become very acquainted in the coming days. Get him. He's coming with us." Tituba says.
Tituba turns to leave as Elnora and Zachary move towards me. I push myself to my feet, feeling drained. I square up, ready to take on both vampires as the howl of a wolf echoes through the room.
Zach and Elnora are stunned as they stare at something behind me. As I turn, something inside of me screams. A large claw clutches the opening that leads to the locker room. Another joins as the humanoid wolf from my vision appears in the doorway.
A low growl hits a familiar chord in my heart. The terror washes away, leaving relief. The feeling is confusing. I should be running away from him.
The werewolf stares at me before its eyes land on something behind me. A snarl is accompanied by a howl as the russet wolf breaks from the door and rushes at the vampires.
I dive out of the way as the werewolf swats the vampires away easily. Zach attacks the wolf, getting a few good hits in, but the wolf swats him away again.
"Enough!" Tituba shouts.
The wolf roars as it dives at her. She grabs the wolf out of the air and slams it to the ground, holding it in place.
The vampires converge on the wolf, attacking him relentlessly. Just as I saw a female figure displaced in Charlotte's body, I can see David's figure clearly.
"ENOUGH!" I shout.
An unseen force lashes out and knocks the vampires backwards. Tituba is shaken as well as she is pushed against the wall. She stares at me, bewildered, before a smile replaces the expression.
"And there he is. This is nowhere near over, Zion? We'll be in touch." Tituba says.
Tituba bends down to the vampires at her feet and the three of them disappear. The twin-pires begin to stir as I race to David, who has now reverted to his naked human form.
Lucas and Finn join me as I tell Finn to get David to my house. Finn does as I say as he scoops David up and disappears with him.
My legs wobble as Lucas catches me. I ask him to take me home, and he does so without as much as a wry comment.
It allows me to understand how bad the situation has become.
