It was the fear in Bill's eyes that scared Dipper more than Ford's silence at his questions.
"So where are we going?" Dipper asked as they rowed the smaller boat towards the island. The ship was anchored a distance away from the island, a 'safety precaution' as Ford had put it.
"It's none of your concern." Ford said.
"Well, you brought me along. I think that makes it my concern." Dipper commented.
"I wouldn't have taken you if that was a choice! You're just an ignorant child! It's the shell that I need!" Ford said.
"The shell? What does this have to do with the shell?" Dipper asked, his hand unconsciously creeping up to the necklace.
"It's the key to it all. Not that you would understand, child!" Ford snapped.
"I understand a lot more than you think I do, I may be a child, but I'm a lot smarter than you give me credit for." Dipper replied. A flicker of worry flashed over Ford's eyes, he looked down at the shell which Dipper held in his hand against his chest.
"And what do you think you know?" Ford tested. Dipper rolled his eyes.
"Wouldn't you like to know." Dipper commented. Ford stared Dipper down, then sighed.
"Listen Dipper, I'm not your enemy. Whatever the siren has told you, he's lying to you. He's a master manipulator and wants nothing more than to destroy us." Ford said. Dipper looked over at Bill, who had remained silent the entire time.
Bill had sent him a look that seemed to say, go along with him.
Dipper looked back at Ford.
"You're right. I'm sorry." Dipper said slowly. Ford smiled.
"I'm sorry I've been so secretive. You have to understand my reluctance to share information with anyone. Especially with the siren present." Ford said. Dipper nodded.
"I understand Captian Ford. Could you at least tell me what we are doing here?" Dipper asked.
"We are here to reclaim what was stolen from me." Ford said, then continued rowing the boat.
Dipper chanced a look at Bill who seemed terrified.
Then Dipper remembered what Bill had said about what he had stolen from Ford.
He had hidden what he stole from Ford in a place that wasn't accessible to humans.
So where are we going? And why is Bill so scared? Dipper thought, he hoped Bill could hear his thoughts. If Bill could, he didn't show it.
Once they arrived at land, Ford roughly pulled Bill by the chain attached to the collar around his neck.
"Come on, start walking siren." Ford said rudely. Bill stumbled over his feet before getting out of the boat.
Dipper followed them out of the boat.
"So, how far are we walking?" Dipper asked as they walked towards the forest on the island.
"To the center of the island." Ford said after a few moments of walking.
Dipper decided not to ask anymore questions. He tried to memorize the path they walked, incase they needed to make a quick escape.
Dipper racked his brain for any possible ideas to get out of the situation they were currently in. But nothing came to him. He looked at Bill, who walked in front of him with Ford, but Bill didn't look back.
Dipper tried his best to get Bill's attention without Ford noticing.
Bill, can you hear me? Dipper thought. After a second he noticed Bill give an ever so slight nod, without looking back at Dipper.
