Chapter 5: Frost's macaw

After saying goodbye to Dread, Frost listened for the "SQUAWK" again.

' Hello?' Frost said into the gloomy forest.

Squawk... Squawk...

Frost perked up his ears.

The cries were more sad and more soft.

' It's starting to suffocate!' Frost thought.

Frost ran around in frantic circles, trying to locate where the creature was.

Squawk... Squawk...

The sounds were getting further and further away.

Frost tried his best to follow the cries.

He closed his eyes.

Only depending on his ears to find the way.

Squawk... Squawk...

The cries were closer now.

Whatever the creature was, it had stopped moving.

Frost opened his eyes.

The creature had brought him to a juniper green plain.

' Hello? Anyone there?' Frost yelled into the plain.

Silence.

' Okay... I'll take that as a yes...' Frost muttered to himself.

Frost looked around.

With his sharp eyesight, Frost saw a note, flapping wildly in the wind.

Frost trotted over to the note and picked it up.

On the note, some faded words were printed:

Dear reader,

I am the emperor of The Enchanted Kingdom. If you've arrived here by some squawking noises, please read this note. If you've arrived here accidentally, there's a map for your convenience.

No one is allowed to dig straight down in this area. Not even the miners. This is for your safety as there lies a horrible beast right under our paws.

If you dare to dig down, I will ask the Head Search And Rescue, Frost, to arrest the offender. If you see someone digging down, remember to contact me immediately.

But I would very much prefer you to run away from this place now. Get the map and run away, so you won't get lost.

Frost looked at the ground, puzzled.

' A beast? How can a beast be underground now? It doesn't make sense. And besides, if there is a beast, it would be tamed in the Beast Taming Valley. It's strange. Besides, Emperor Icicle said The Head Search And Rescue would come and arrest the offender, and technically, I can't arrest myself...' Frost thought.

Frost grabbed the map under the note and began to study it.

' Hmm... This might come in handy.' Frost thought.

He shoved the map into his bag and paced around the field.

' Beast... should I dig down... I might get arrested...' He mumbled to himself.

Squawk? Squawk?

The creature said again.

' Wherever you are, little one... oh er... or big guy, I'm here to help!' Frost said to the creature, hoping it could hear.

SQUAWKITY! SQUAWK! SQUAWK!

The creature replied happily.

' Okay... so I'm just going to dig down...'
