Frost sucked on his paws nervously.
This was the moment of truth.
The truth is whether he could fly.
"Come on! We haven't got all day." Juniper snapped. "Oh, be quiet! This is the moment of truth! Don't you understand?" Sky answered, "but seriously Frost, we are waiting."
"Okay okay." Frost muttered.
He closed his eyes, and flapped his wings. He wanted to feel the whooshing of the winds, the flapping of his wings, but... no luck.
He was still on the grassy ground, and he was not lifting an inch.
"What?!" Frost yelled frustratedly.
He furrowed his brow and tried again.
He imagined he was in the air, his wings flapping, him gliding.
No luck.
"Oh no..." Sky muttered.
"I can't... fly?" Frost asked, too stunned to say more.
"Yeas, apparentlys you can'ts! So comes ons, I haves to returns to mine families." Juniper sighed.
"Oh stop fussing!" Sky said, "Frost, it's alright. I suspect you are just out of energy to fly. You just have to wait 2 weeks, and you will be able to fly again."
"I..." Frost murmured.
"Oh comes on!" Juniper complained.
"I can't fly?" Frost muttered.
"Yeah... but it is only temporary, I am sure. Icicle must have put some temporary poison in the armour, in order not to make you completely lose your power." Sky tried to calm Frost down.
"I know but this theory doesn't make sense! Icicle is my friend." Frost argued.
"Okay. You knows what? We knows that Frost can'ts flies. So let's goes!" Juniper hurried, as she stomped away.
"It's OK, Frost, we can talk it out..." Sky tried.
"It's alright. Juniper is right." Frost replied and followed Juniper.
He decided to walk, not run or he had to rest. Luckily, Juniper and Sky slowed down so he could catch up.
They walked and walked, with Juniper showing the way. They walked through tunnels, slithered through tall grass.
Frost kept on puzzling over the same question.
How?
How could he not be able to fly for 2 weeks?
How could Sky think it was his friend who was behind this?
How could he feel drowsy when he wore the armour?
The sky slowly faded to a deep black. The shadows lengthened. It was getting dark. The stars tinkled, and it was an enchanting sight, but it meant something horrible to Frost.
It was night.
They walked a little further, and Juniper said, "Oh Frost and Sky, I'm afraids this is wheres I leaves you." Juniper said, as they arrived in front of a wooden hut.
The hut's roof was made of golden straw, and the hut was nearly torn down. Pots and plants were placed as decorations, and it gave it a nice, warm touch.
"So... this is your house?" Frost asked, furrowing his brow. "Yeah. I'm afraids this houses is... well... unstable. It has been builded for hundred of year, and... my family is waitings." Juniper said.
"Oh uh... sure. So I guess... this is it, um... goodbye Juniper." Sky stuttered. "Goodbye, Juniper." Frost replied.
"Goodbye, you two. Take care. When you need me, just call "June is the month!" Remember!" Juniper answered, and like that, she turned away, and entered her hut.
"Okay..." Sky muttered.
"We've gotta keep moving! We shan't keep Emperor Icicle waiting! And by the way, you said I can fly two weeks later, right? So we shan't worry. We will walk to Brightest Night City. " Frost said.
"You know it's night... right?" Sky mumbled.
"Yeah. Mark the map." Frost orders.
"No problem... but uh... don't you think we should take a rest first?" Sky suggested.
"No. Tell me where we are." Frost muttered.
"Uh... we are at... Rosewood Valley..." Sky muttered. "Ugh. We got off track, we should've followed Juniper home... but whatever. We will walk forward to... Devil's Forest... and we'll arrive in Brightest Night City in no time." Frost tried to keep things positive.
"You make it sound so easy." Sky said.
"We just walk forward. What could go wrong?" Frost replied.
"Never say that, buddy. A lot could go wrong." Sky muttered.
"I know, I know." Frost muttered, "so what do you want?"
"I recommended we take a rest." Sky said.
"Nope. We are totally running out of time, mister!"
"I know! But this rest will do us some good!" Sky muttered.
"Fine." Frost sighed.
Sky was surprised that Frost gave in so easily. But. The truth was, Frost was tired too. And, a quick rest would do some good.
"Alright. Uh... where will we set the camp?" Sky questioned
"Here." Frost decided, as he dug his paws into the earth.
"Alright... you got any tents?" Sky questioned.
"Nope." Frost replied simply, as he pulled out two blankets the emperor packed for him.
"No, no. Do not touch those. Answer most importantly, don't sleep in those!" Sky warned.
"Why not?" Frost questioned as he dropped the blankets. "Okay. Um... this might not sound... nice to you, but Emperor Icicle is a suspect." Sky muttered.
"So?" Frost immediately picked up the blankets, "I don't want to have those talks again. You don't trust Icicle, then don't sleep with me."
"No... no... that's not what I meant," Sky grimaced, "I am just saying..."
"What?" Frost spat.
Sky sighed and said, "You make your own choices. Emperor Icicle is a suspect..."
"Oh be quiet!" Frost yelled.
"Okay, okay... I'm sorry," Sky said as he raised his wings in surrender, "just... Can you listen to me just this once? I don't care if we go different ways after this... or we... won't be friends or whatever, just trust me this once. I don't wanna see you go all sick and stuff. After tonight, I'll leave you alone on your quest, and I'll go home. Just don't sleep in these blankets."
"Hmm." Frost thought carefully.
"Please?"
"Fine." Frost decided.
"Yay!" Sky celebrated.
"Just come with me in this mission." Frost was already lying on the ground, with his eyes closed, and most importantly, no blankets.
"Good." Sky smiled, as he snuggled under Frost's paw, sucking on his wings.
"I sometimes forget how young you actually are." Frost muttered. "Not my problem." Sky snapped, but Frost ignored him.
As Sky's snores sounded, Frost opened his eyes. The stars were twinkling in the midnight blue sky. The trees were waving in a steady rhythm. And slowly, the rhythms soothed Frost into a deep sleep.
