I'll always remember when your words
Were the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard,
Reverberating like a diapason
To the melody of my mind's monody.
They pleased my ear, and eased my mind,
So I resolved to sing your praises for all of time.
It's been so very long since I've heard them,
And now I never can again.
It's not that you're dead, but you're barely a friend,
Let alone my lover, though you are still my love.
You once made breathing so much easier.
Full of love, my lungs felt so much lighter.
But the sweet air that mingled in our breaths
Has since turned mephitic, and I'm suffocating to death.
My lungs are full of lead, and the heart they house is dead,
Along with your words, lost to time.
