CHAPTER THREE : ABANDONMENT BINDS THOSE TOGTHER
Kaori liked to pride herself on having a very normal sleep schedule. Most of the time that is. On occasion when her mind was in a frenzy, her sleeping patterns would change drastically and she would practically become nocturnal.
And yet, she liked to delude herself to think she could sleep by curling up in her duvet and closing her eyes.
Darkness eloped her dorm room. Only the soft sound of the curtains flowing in the gentle breeze, a small echo of crickets from the forest around her dorm. No one around, no one to bother her. Kaori was at peace with her allusive thoughts.
Until she heard a soft knock at her door.
"Hey Kako, I know you're awake." Gojo muttered, his voice carrying through the silence. "Can we talk? I got you soda."
In her bed, kaori turned onto her back and smiled at the door. She threw her duvet and leapt onto her feet. Gently, Kaori pulled her door open and noticed that his blindfold was still on, but his hair was more rugged than a few hours earlier.
Her eyes drifted to the two sodas in his hands, and she smiled softly at him. "You didn't have to bribe me with soda, 'Toru. You know I like talking with you." She told him.
"Well, you can never be too sure with teenagers these days." Satoru chuckled lightly, shrugging his shoulders.
"Sounds like you're projecting." Kaori remarked as she pulled on her boots.
Once she was ready, Kaori closed her door and Gojo immediately offered out the sodas. Kaori picked the berry flavoured one as the other had more sugar in it and she knew better then to deny her cousin of his sweets.
One of the main reasons no one was around was because Kaori lived in the old dormitory building. It was in use when Gojo was at high school, but they built new ones a few years later. Kaori was asked if she wanted to move into the new ones but declined, saying she felt more at home there.
So, the two sat on the steps of the old dormitory. The stars were twinkling above them while whisps of clouds lightened the dark, midnight skyline.
Kaori sat on a lower step to Gojo, her legs straightened and resting downwards, while he had his tucked under him. A small hiss was admitted from the can as Kaori opened it and she brought it to her lips. Gojo, however, simply held his between his hands.
"How was your mission? You never answered me earlier." Gojo finally broke the comfortable silence.
"Yeah, I guess I didn't." Kaori muttered, her mind flashing to the sight of the familiar yet unfamiliar corpse. "It was ... surprisingly nice. It was a large collection of grade 1 curses, in the end, which was a pain to exorcise but I got it done early so had time to explore Brussels. It was an amazing city."
