CHAPTER TWELVE : DEAD PARENTS ARE BAD OMENS

"Stop running around, you'll wear the carpet out." Kaori told him as she laced her boots.

It's the day of the Sister School Exchange Event and Itadori could not be more excited. He doesn't think he's been this excited since Human Earthworm 2 came out. Because of his excitement, Itadori has been metaphorically bouncing off the walls, even just jumping up and down in one spot.

He's so excited to see his friends again!

"How am I supposed to stop running when I get to see everyone today? I'm so excited!" Itadori questioned her, his hands waving about nonsensically.

Kaori couldn't help but smile, his energy was truly infectious. She stood up from the sofa and felt around her skirt pocket and frowned. "I need to grab something from my room, I'll be right back." Kaori told Itadori.

Next to where the TV was standing, was a locked door. Itadori had tried to open it multiple times over the months but never managed to get it open. However, Kaori fished a key out of her pocket and opened it first time.

With curiosity, Itadori followed Kaori. Behind the door was a very narrow staircase that led upwards, turned back on itself then carried on. A second door was at the top and it was already ajar so Itadori naturally went in.

The room was small but highly compact. There was a window, and right below it was the bed. At the end of the bed was a wardrobe but he probably couldn't get into it easily since there was boxes of junk in front of it. The desk and shelves were covered in books, trinkets and lots of fake plants. There was even a mug and cookies just led on the side and Itadori didn't want to question how long it had been there for.

Itadori stood in the doorway and said, "Woah, it's a mess in here."

Kaori, who had been rummaging around in her desk draw, turned to look at Itadori and panicked. "Itadori! I didn't say you could come in!"

The boy stopped and slowly looked over to her. "You can keep calling me Yuji, you know? I don't mind."

"I ... I didn't know that was okay with you." Kaori stuttered out. It had been a while since she had to ask permission to call someone by their given name and she managed to skip that part last night.

"It's okay with me, it made me feel special." Itadori smiled brightly at her. Suddenly, Kaori felt pinned underneath is warm, brown eyes. Why did her face feel hot? "You have such cool stuff in here." Itadori told Kaori as he touched a hanging plant next to his head.

It was clear that Kaori had lived in here a long time (hence the mess) but it felt homely. The walls were painted in a similar fashion to downstairs and now he realised who'd done it. As he continued to snoop, yes he snooping, Itadori bent down to pick up a fancy box.
