CHAPTER ELEVEN : MORALITY AND LOSS

Teriyaki chicken with rice was what Kaori considered to be the best meal invented. Actually, anything with teriyaki sauce on it was considered a masterpiece by Kaori.

And after a hard days work (of dealing with Satoru Gojo and the missions he lays off to her) Kaori loved cooking herself some of her favourite foods. Teriyaki chicken was on the menu for the day! She'd even gone out to the shops after her mission to buy what she needed.

At first, she was going to ask Itadori if he wanted any but remembered that he had gone out on a mission Nanami today so instead she wanted to surprise him with food. So, for the first time in a while, she was cooking two lots of food.

However, while Kaori was cutting the vegetables, the knife slipped and cut her index finger. Kaori panicked only slightly, moving over to the sink so that she didn't contaminate the food. She was about to wash the cut and plaster it up when she remembered what Shoko had told her.

"Constant practicing, no matter how small, is more effective than healing grand injuries."

Kaori focused in on her cut, feeling her cursed energy circle around the area. Then, she felt it turn positive and slowly start to make her finger glow yellow before the cut fully sealed up. And with that, Kaori considered herself a graduate of reverse curse technique for small injuries. It had taken her a year and a half, but she'd done it.

The front door opened, and Kaori didn't need to look to know it was Itadori.

"I'm making teriyaki chicken and rice, do you want some?" She called to him as she returned to the stove and continue her work. No reply came and the front door shut. Finally, Kaori turned to look and her eyes widened.

Itadori didn't look physically harmed, but he wasn't in his uniform. However, it was his body language that gave him away. His shoulders were tight, his fists were clenched, he was hunched over slightly as if he had some kind of heart problem. But his eyes, they were so far away. They weren't warm like they usually were.

Kaori didn't need a second look as she instantly turned off the stove and rounded the counter. It seemed he hadn't even noticed her, so she called out, "Itadori?"

Itadori's eyes snapped to hers. It didn't take a genius to figure out that something was wrong, more accurately that something tragic had most likely happened. He looked to destroyed, his lip was wobbling, and his eyes were glassy. Oh. He was on the verge of tears, that's why.

Kaori knew that most people didn't like to talk about things after they had just happened, it's a natural response. But Itadori always seemed like the type of person to talk out an issue, at least that's what she hoped.

"Itadori, what happened?" Kaori asked, anxiously playing with her hands as she waited.

His brown eyes stared at her, searching for something in her eyes. However, he quickly looked to the ground, his shoulders becoming tighter. "Do you know ... do you know what a proper death is?" He asked her.
