"Rich CEO Kim Taehyung retired two days ago? Literally why?" your boss, Rene, asked, flipping through the newspaper in the corner of the parlor.
"Raise me past minimum wage and I'll tell you," you replied, closing the glass to the tubs of ice cream. You wiped the window down with a wet washcloth, the shift nearing its end. For some reason, a rich and famous CEO named Kim Taehyung retired from his spot. Shame, he was young. What, 25? 26? Maybe 27? You weren't sure, but frankly, you didn't care. You were working part time now to help with bills for school as it was your senior year. You needed money to pay them off, so this was the best bet.
The bell rang a few minutes later, you continuing to wipe the counters with a mental groan. Literally like 10 minutes away from closing and someone had to come in, huh? Granted, you weren't sure what their night was like, so you weren't about to judge too harshly, but still. It was irritating to clean up everything then have to do it again.
When you peeked up, however, you weren't expecting to be thrown to the ground. Well, that was an exaggeration. You were still on your feet, but there was an unbelievably attractive man there, a smooth face with sharp cheekbones. It was like his face lit up the entire room, his bushy hair dark and long, the front sides of his locks parted to show his deadly forehead. He approached the counter seconds later, his lips forming into a smile that crinkled his eyes.
"Hi, do you have a rocky road flavor?" he asked, his voice adorable, a bit squeaky too.
"We do," you replied, surprisingly not flustered or stuttering.
"Can I haaaave," he started, pausing to pout his plump lips, "ugh, this man. I already forgot. TAEHYUNG! GET IN HERE!"
There was a man standing outside the parlor, and upon seeing the first man's gaze, he entered. Wait... Taehyung? No no, there were many people in the world named Taehyung, right? There was no way the rich CEO Kim Taehyung was in your ice cream parlor, no matter how close his old business was to your shop. Regardless, the man came to the other's side, pulling on his mask and pushing up his sunglasses.
"You have a horrible memory," he said to his friend, the plump lipped guy pouting more. "I swear to God, Jimin stop pouting or I'll give you a better reason to pout."
"Say less."
"Jimin."
"Sorry." The man - Jimin - shifted his gaze back to you. Gosh those gorgeous eyes- okay Y/n, shut up. "Can I have one two-scoop rocky road and... uh..."
"One two-scoop vanilla," Taehyung said, his eyes hidden behind his sunglasses. "We're in no rush, by the way, Miss uh...?"
"L/n, but Y/n is fine," you said, plugging their orders into the machine. "Is that all today?" They nodded, you making sure you got it right before meeting their stares. "$6.39 please."
Jimin cut off Taehyung, paying for the desserts. "My treat, to celebrate you leaving that hellhole you called a job," Jimin said, chuckling afterwards. Oh no. Oh shit, that really was Kim Taehyung. The Kim Taehyung every teenage girl and their moms raved over. The famous one with more money than you had ever seen in your life. Granted, you lived in comfort (NOT luxury), but his bank account was fatter than your ass... which was saying a lot. The squats you had been doing were helping-
"Thank you," you said when he handed you a 20. You were about to give him change when Jimin held up his hand. "Sir, are you sure? That's a lot."
"No need, keep it. I should be giving more, to be honest."
Taehyung coughed, "Simp."
"Shut up Tae."
"Make me daddy."
"Oh, pulling the d word out in front of a lady? You should know better Mr. Kim."
You glanced between the two. "Not to sound weird or disrespectful, but are you two dating?"
They burst out laughing, Taehyung continuing to pull on his mask as he did. "Oh hell no, I'd rather date my cousin," Taehyung said, watching you grab your trusty scooper from the water bin. "Or you."
"Should I be offended?" you asked, raising a brow.
"Wait shit, I didn't think that line through."
"Smooth Mr. Kim, very smooth," you said, opening the glass and grabbing a plastic cup. It had the shop's logo on it, little shades of mauve on it as well. Taehyung was mortified by your response, but you chose to keep scooping up the rocky road. When you finished, you placed it on the counter. "We give extra to attractive men," you whispered, cleaning off your scooper before preparing to get Taehyung's order. Jimin lit up like a child, his squishy hands snatching the container and bringing it to his chest. Adorable, but you needed to focus on Taehyung's ice cream now.
"I see where this is going," Taehyung said with a snort, you placing the ice cream on the counter. "Wait, that actually looks pretty full."
"I said we give extra to attractive men." You shrugged, and even from behind the mask, you could tell Taehyung was smiling.
Your boss was almost certainly eyeing you, but you paid it no mind. "I'll be sure to come back then," Taehyung said, then, he got nudged by his friend, the man pointing his brows in your direction. Taehyung sighed, "I'm Kim Taehyung, I'm sure you saw the news of my resignation."
"My boss was just reading about it, actually."
"Is that your boss in the corner?" You confirmed his words. "May I speak to her?" You agreed, beckoning Rene to come. As soon as she did, Taehyung took off his mask and sunglasses, revealing the face you swore the Greek Gods themselves carved for him. "Are you hiring?"
The words that left his lips almost got masked in your admiration for his face, but then, you replayed them and your jaw dropped. Rene nodded, you desperately trying to hide your resentment for the idea of working with a millionaire. "Do you know how to clean?" you asked before you could stop yourself. Rene glared, but again, you ignored it.
"I'm sure I can learn from you," he replied, that cocky smirk of his causing you to grimace. He took the pen Rene handed him, the papers along with it. "I hope to be working here soon." The shit-eating grin Rene was giving you didn't help your emotions. You had no problem with people who had money, but you knew CEOs all too well. Your ex best friend was one, and ex was the key word there. They always only cared about themselves, and based on the way Taehyung was carrying himself, you had a feeling he was the same way. And now you'd have to work with that.
Taehyung and Jimin sat at one of the numerous empty tables, Rene peering at you. You remained silent, observing the two boys eating their ice cream. One was busying himself with doing the application, the other was happily zipping tiny scoops of the dairy into his mouth, talking Taehyung's ear off about world peace or some shit, you weren't sure. All you knew was that Taehyung didn't seem too bad for now, but that was how most people started off.
Speak of the devil, only ten minutes later, right when your shift ended, Taehyung approached the front, Rene going over once again. He grinned, cockiness seeping into his expression while he handed the application back to your boss, his eyes never leaving you. "Thank you for your consideration." His hands slipped away from the papers, him backing up with Jimin on his tail, his gaze still on yours. "I hope to be seeing you soon, Miss L/n." And after that, they left.
And that was how your crazy story began...
