ricky finally made it to the school. it was around five in the morning and the decathlon team had to be there early if they wanted to get to washington dc at a good time. the boy was hugging himself in his hoodie as the cold crispy air hit his skin. he looked up to see nini walking up the bus with seb and carlos. her small body was leaning forward as her heavy backpack and duffle bag sat on her shoulders.

ricky made his way up to the girl, "hey uh... do you want some help?"

nini straightened out her back and forced a smile, "i'm good, thanks though."

the girl was about to walk off until ricky gently grabbed her shoulder. they looked at each other as ricky continued, "come on... you know i can carry like a hundred of these?" the boy chuckled, motioning towards her backpack. "just let me help."

nini melted into a smile and nodded her head, "kind of said that in a douche bag way but thanks."

ricky chuckled and nodded his head while he took the backpack away from her, "sorry, i didn't mean it like that. i meant for it to come off as like ... it wouldn't be a problem? i-i don't know," the boy stammered.

"you're fine, ricky," nini laughed, "just relax..."

ricky just nodded his head and softly smiled. the boy put nini's backpack on his chest so that this body was hugged by both his backpack and now her's. nini chuckled at ricky as blushed went to her cheeks. ricky looked at her with confusion, "what?"

"nothing... it's just you look funny," nini simply said.

mr. mazarra finally came and gave out some announcements. the two teenagers put their focus on the teacher. red came up behind ricky, "i think she's finally warming up to you again."

ricky gave red a hopeful look. he whispered, "you think so?"

red nodded his head and nudged the boy. ricky felt proud of himself and couldn't stop smiling to himself. after announcements, all of them started to make their way onto the bus. kourtney and seb purposely sat together so that nini was forced to sit with ricky. red and ashlyn had the same idea and sat next to each other as well. ricky walked into the bus to see nini sitting alone. they shot each other with a bright smile.

ricky was about to sit down next to nini until ej slipped in and took his seat. ricky stopped in his tracks. nini glared at ej as the blue eyed boy made himself comfortable, "sup."

"why are you sitting next to me?" nini muttered.

ej put his airpods in his ears and shrugged his shoulders. "well me and gina broke up so i'm gonna sit with her. carlos refused to let anyone sit next to him because he wants to use both of the seats as a bed so here i am."

"i literally don't like you."

"yeah well you're not exactly a ray of sunshine either," ej spat back, making nini roll her eyes.

meanwhile, ricky had no choice but than to sit with gina. the boy awkwardly sat down next to her and gave her a weary smile, "uh.. hey. i hope it's cool that i'm sitting here," ricky quietly said.

gina gave ricky a comforting smile and nodded her head. "yeah, you're good! i'm glad you ended up coming ricky."

ricky let out a sigh of relief and gleamed at the girl, "yeah me too, thanks." he dug through his backpack and pulled out a kitkat bar. he nudged gina, "did you wanna half this or something?"

gina melted into a smile and nodded her head, "sure! thanks," she grabbed the other half of the chocolate and looked at ricky with interest. the oblivious boy just nodded his head and grinned.
