the girl sat down and took in a deep breath, nodding her head for ricky to continue. ricky played with his fingers and shrugged his shoulders, "i get it .. if like you don't want to say anything... but i was just wondering...um... nini, what happened when richard took you?"

nini looked away from his eyes. her body slowly sinking into the couch. "i don't really want to talk about it."

ricky fell silent. he couldn't get mad at nini for not talking about the situation but it didn't make him feel any better either. the girl looked up from her legs, seeing the disappointment in ricky's face. nini let out a sigh.

"it was scary," nini announced, breaking the silence. "when richard took me ... i really thought i was gonna... die... i remember just.. crying and calling out your name and for my moms but at the back of my head ... i knew i wasn't going to be saved."

ricky let out a sigh and made his way next to nini on the couch. they stared at their laps as ricky spoke, "i want you to know that i did try though, nini. everyday i went out looking for you ... i never gave up... even if you weren't here today, i'd still be out there. looking for you."

nini softly smiled, looking up at him. she nodded her head, "i know," she breathed out. she looked down at ricky's hands, gently wrapping her small hands around his. the girl sucked in a breath, "he's really smart though, ricky. he's always three steps ahead of everyone. like even... his backup plans have backup plans. it's insane. he's insane."

ricky felt sick to his stomach. he looked over at nini —  hesitated to ask, "so... why do you think he let you go?"

nini shrugged her shoulders, "i don't like to think about it.... it makes me really scared because i know that this is just the beginning..."

"i'm gonna get rid of him," ricky quickly assured the girl, "i promise."

nini forced a smile at ricky and stood up from the couch, "we should start studying," was all she said. ricky furrowed his eyebrows together. he watched as nini went across the room and rummaged through her backpack, looking for books.

"what was that about?" ricky breathed out. the girl turned around, holding her textbooks in her arms.

"what?"

"that response," ricky answered, "you... kinda ignored it?"

nini scoffed and looked off to the side, "i don't... i don't know?"

"you don't believe in me...?"

nini's face fell, "it's not that. it's just— you don't know what he's capable of ricky. you're fighting a ghost. he's unpredictable and he's not from here."

"why are you thinking so highly of richard right now...?" ricky breathed out. nini's mouth fell open and she looked at ricky astonishment.

"highly?? you think i'm gonna think highly of someone who just fucking kidnapped me and is probably gonna harass me any chance he gets??" nini yelled out of frustration, "i'm not defending him, ricky. i'm just telling you that he's fucking crazy! he's a fucking murderer and you're just a highschool student!?"

"we're the same age, nini??"

"yeah but who's been spider-man longer?? who goes out kills people for the fucks of it?" nini questioned the boy, "just a few months ago, you and red were geeking out in his room about some fucking legos and now you're trying to convince me that you can kill a murderer?? sorry for not feeding into your ego!! guess it slipped my mind because i've been too busy thinking about being held hostage for a fucking month by someone who looks exactly like you."

ricky fell silent again. they both stared at each other but nini had tears at the brim of her eyes. she quickly looked away, wiping her eyes. ricky took in a deep breath, "i'm sorry... i didn't think."
