surprises .30

the lights started to dim down as the movie began. ricky looked over at nini with excitement but the girl's eyes were anxiously stuck on her phone. ricky gently put his hand over nini's hand — accidentally startling her.

"you okay?" ricky whispered, not wanting to annoy the other people in the movie theater.

"yeah, just my moms checking up on me," nini replied, tucking her phone away.

"they're cool though, right?" ricky asked, "you know, with like ... being out with me all day and stuff?"

"yeah... yeah... they know i'm safe with you," nini reassured the boy.

"yup, dana sure does love me," ricky answered,  lighting laughing under his breath. 

"who?"

"dana... your mom...?" ricky stated, giving nini a questioning look.

nini quickly forced a smile and nudged the boy, "i know doofus! i was joking."

ricky nodded his head, forcing out a chuckle. he felt weird and unsure but he didn't know of what yet. 

did the ptsd make nini forgetful?

nini could sense ricky's uneasiness so the girl grabbed ricky's hand again, giving him a reassuring squeeze. ricky watched with suspicion as the girl brought his hand up to her lips. nini softly kissed his hand.

"hey neens?" ricky forced out with a sweet smile. nini looked away from the screen and looked at ricky with bright eyes, "doesn't this remind you of our first date?"

the girl hesitated but inevitably nodded her head, "yeah!"

"that movie was so cute," ricky lied. he was studying her, "it was probably one of my favorite disney movies."

"same," nini agreed, quickly turning to the screen. ricky's face fell.

how could she forget what movie we watched?

the boy did not say anything for the meantime. he could care less about the movie at this point. ricky's only concern was about nini. 

and he did not even know if nini was the girl sitting next to him at that very moment.

"mmm... where to next?" ricky asked as they walked out of the movie theater. nini hailed for a cab and gave him a smirk.

"the surprise," she said in a quiet tone. her mouth was slightly turned up and she quickly looked away from him. nini grabbed ricky's hand and led him to the taxi cab, "hopefully, you like surprises."

the boy did not say anything but force a smile at the girl. he wrapped his arm around her while they rode in silence to the next destination. ricky could feel nini's leg bouncing up and down. her body was stiff and her face was cold. 

after around fifteen minutes, the cab came to a stop. the girl paid and tipped the cab driver as ricky and her made their way out of the cab. 

"the winfield hall clock tower," ricky breathed out, hearing the cab drive away. 

nini let out a sigh of relief, "yeah, it's gorgeous, huh?"

"isn't it abandoned now?" ricky asked, "it's been abandoned for like five years now."

"doesn't make it any less romantic," nini answered, pulling the boy inside. 

"how did you even get access to this building," ricky questioned, amazed at how massive everything was.
