"boot the computer up," richard instructed nina, "we need to make sure it live streams worldwide."
they finally took the cloth off of nini's mouth, making it easier for the girl to breath. her lips were chapped and lacked pigmentation.
ricky felt terrible every time he saw how fragile and small nini looked.
nina nodded her head, focusing her attention on the computer. the girl furrowed her eyebrows together and let out a sigh, "something's wrong. i can't hack into the news channel servers."
richard took in a deep breath, "what do you mean? i thought we already hacked into them? just find the IP address and connect to them like we did before."
"it's not that simple," nina said in a stern voice as she finally locked eyes with richard.
nini and ricky eyed each other, catching onto the tension between richard and nina. ricky forced a reassuring smile to his girl before they focused on the other two again.
richard glanced at the two hostages and ran his fingers through his hair. he whispered something to nina.
"we'll be back. don't even try doing something stupid, ricky," richard spat as he gathered all the computers and wires. nini watched as nina looked at ricky with remorse before she followed richard out of the room.
"she's in love with you," nini softly told ricky before locking eyes with him. she gave him a delicate smile.
"who? nina?"
"yeah... i don't think she wants to hurt you," the girl told him but ricky shook his head.
"she was manipulating me for months, neens," ricky told his girl, "i only care about you."
ricky tried to scoot his body closer to nini. the boy could see how dark nini's under eyes were. nini looked like she had been crying for months straight which she probably did but would never confess.
nini's hair was everywhere and her skin looked dry. although despite all this, ricky still admired nini's beauty. she was the most beautiful thing in the world to him.
"i'm so sorry, nini," ricky finally broke down, "i'm so so sorry, baby."
ricky planted a soft kiss on the girls forehead and they stayed in that position for a few minutes. the both of them reminiscing on their past and what they could've had if it didn't get taken away. the girl didn't even notice she was crying until they pulled apart.
nini's eyes were closed as tears fell down her face. the realization of what she had to go through and is about to endure finally hit her.
she was angry at nina and richard for ruining her life. nini missed her moms, her friends, school, her life, and most importantly — she missed ricky. the girl was even more angry at herself for still feeling sympathy for nina.
and she was scared.
scared that this would be her and ricky's last time together.
they haven't seen each other since the night they got back from the decathlon trip. nini's been stuck here ever since.
the girl still hasn't said a word. ricky repeated himself, "i'm so sorry... i didn't protect you like i said would... i-i'm so sorry, nini. i'm sorry."
"it's okay," nini honestly answered as she finally looked up at ricky. she creaked out a smile and continued, "i'm just glad you're here now."
ricky shook his head — more tears welding up his eyes. "i should've known, nini. i-i should've known it was nina the whole time. god, how can i be so stupid?"
