Warnings: none, just angst and fluff if you squint really hard

It was quiet, which is rare when Hisoka is around. You weren't complaining though, and neither was he.

"I never saw you as the type to settle," you said, breaking the silence.

Hisoka had changed since the last time you saw him, that was obvious. He no longer wore his makeup, and his hair wasn't in that odd style of his.

"I'm not," he responded, looking at you. "I never thought you'd be living in a small apartment. Didn't you always say you wanted something bigger?"

You rolled your eyes, "Things change."

Hisoka huffed, moving to sit beside you, "I can tell it still hurts you," he said, watching your hands as they fiddled with each other. "I didn't want to do it, you know."

"We weren't ever going to work in the end, Hiso," the old nickname slid off your tongue with ease, the familiarity of it comforting. "It's always a losing game with you."

You didn't mean for your words to be as harsh as they were, but you didn't feel bad about the way Hisoka's face dropped upon hearing them either.

"Would you have said yes?" Hisoka asked, remembering the night he was going to propose to you. It felt so long ago, and he wanted nothing more than to go back to that night.

"Yes," you admitted, staring at the sky above, admiring the stars as they twinkled. "I would have."

It calmed him, knowing that at some point your heart was his, and that it wasn't just him in love.

You felt an object get placed in your lap, and when you looked down it was a small, velvet box.

"It has to bring you some sort of comfort, knowing it wasn't a one sided love, and that your love wasn't for nothing."

You already knew what was inside. The ring, wedding ring to be exact.

Sighing, you placed it in your pocket, "We would have been badass together if things could have worked out, you know."

Hisoka nodded, if only you knew how often he would imagine you two together and happy, "Is this a bad time to say I love you?"

"Yes, it is," you responded. "If you would have said those words to me 3 years ago, then maybe we wouldn't be here right now, saying our goodbyes."
