Ty stood at the Quonset hut door & stared at
Cole as he pulled his F350 with horse trailer up. Ty wanted to rip the truck door open & pull the kid out, but Ty was trying hard to be 'civilized'. Ty had instincts about people, and this kid annoyed him.
He stood quietly as Cole walked up.....

Thanks again Ty. How long have you & Amy been dating??

Long enough.

Well she's a pretty girl, you're a lucky man Ty.

Is that right?? Luck had nothing to do with me & Amy getting together. I was a gentleman with her, & her family & friends. You know Cole, it's important to establish a good image with your girls family. Guys try to be respectable & take their boots off when entering the family home.
Bow your head when grace is said & always compliment the cook.
And then, there are more subtle courtesies among men, like not kissing someone's fiancé.
An engagement ring draws a line around a girl, that should never be crossed.

Um, are you accusing me of kissing Amy??

Look Ty, I never saw an engagement ring on Amy's finger, she never even mentioned you.
I figured she wasn't dating anyone.
Man she's pretty, and I'm sorry Ty.
I did kiss Amy at the Rodeo.
She didn't kiss me back and said she was dating someone.

Ty saw how nervous Cole had become.

Well, ok then; thanks for explaining Cole.
But maybe you can help me understand why you came up to the Ranch house just now.
Your tires are not low. I think you wanted another try with Amy; I saw you drooling over her dress.......

Cole walked backwards with his left hand out behind him; This felt like Deja-Vu all over again.
He felt for the truck door & found the handle. All the while not taking his eyes off of Ty.
In his young life, twice Cole got beaten up at school. After that he became an expert at knowing if he could 'take' an opponent. If not, he'd try to diffuse the conflict or run.
Cole's eyes were locked onto Ty's. His gut had automatically decided a strategy moments ago.....run!!

Look Ty, I don't want any trouble man.
I'm sorry I kissed Amy; I was an idiot being led around by my...........
I'm just going to get in my truck & drive out of here.
I'm sorry man!! I'll never ever look at Amy again. Ok??
Are we ok?? I said I was sorry. I meant it.

Cole, I guess I'm a little touchy about guys kissing Amy; this isn't the first time it's happened; but it will be the last.

Hey man, you need to calm down!!! I didn't sleep with Amy, .....I just kissed her. That's all!!
A kiss doesn't mean anything!!

No, .....I don't; but I do have a problem with a guy being a smart ass with me......and telling me to calm down.

Ty lunged forward & grabbed Cole by the shirt collar & lifted the young man a foot off the ground, with one hand. Ty held Cole there, his shoes dangling in the air; his heart racing as fast as a hummingbirds.

Cole silently cursed himself for not jumping in his truck & flooring it out of here.

Cole, I want your word that you'll never kiss Amy again! Your word as a man!!
Ty poked Cole in the chest with the other hand.
He had no intentions of hurting the boy, just scaring the hell out of him. Ty was done with guys like Chase & Ahmed kissing Amy. She was his, and his alone. End of story.
