Love Never Gives Up
Chapter - 9
'Landing in Ty's Heart'
By; Mike Hurley

Amy found a nice dog park at the
St John's Airport, for Leo to stretch his legs.
After several minutes she noticed a gate marked:
Atlantic Ocean
1/2 mile
Maple Trail

The pleasant trail left the dog park & entered a forest of sleeping oak trees. Amy looked up & saw their arms touching the sky.

She looked at her watch & opened the gate; Leo deserved a nice walk after spending so much time in his little kennel. And they had 30 minutes to spare.

Just like at home, Leo keenly found every street light, park bench & fire hydrant to sniff & leave his scent.

The Maple trail meandered through the prettiest flower gardens Amy had ever seen. All sorts of songbirds serenaded her.
Honey bees were busy and a golden eagle high atop the tallest tree could read Amy's name on her luggage tag.

Leo stopped & froze when a fox crossed the trail 25 meters ahead. In a moment, the dog continued walking.

It was a lovely day.

Leo loved walking, feeling the warm sun on his face, and listening, somehow to creatures he had never once laid eyes on.......birds.
A butterfly made Amy laugh, it landed right atop Leo's head and sat there for almost 5 minutes like Leo was his private taxi.

They met a white Scotty dog & Leo stopped to say hello. He sniffed his new friends butt and gave her nose a lick. Amy was amazed at how Leo quickly made friends. Most dogs liked Leo straight away, his dark eyes bore no threats.

Amy chatted with the dogs owner for a moment, comparing notes on the weather and such.
She picked a piece of lint off her red top & hoped Ty would notice she wore his favorite outfit just for him. The curvature of Amy's cleavage showed to catch Ty's eyes. But not enough to be provocative.

They reached the ocean & Amy stared in disbelief; she had never been to the ocean before & marveled at the immense size of it.
She had heard the British & Americans called the Atlantic Ocean a pond; but Amy had never seen a pond this size before.

She took her sandals off & walked through the warm sand & felt gentle waves roll over her toes. The surreal experience reminded Amy of Ty's strong hands massaging her feet.
He seemed to love giving Amy a massage & with his hands, Ty could help Amy shed the stresses of her day day. Leo walked beside Amy & had no idea what to think of the cold water swoshing up the beach with the timing of a metronome. Soon Leo's toes seemed to giggle and enjoy the waters gentle caress.

The waves sang a quiet rhythmic song, entrancing all creatures with ears. But deep in the depths of the melody, a fearsome monster slept. When awake it tossed ships like leaves and poured fear into the minds of men.

They walked for almost 15 minutes along the scenic shore; a napping seagull squawked in distress as Amy & Leo woke him, inadvertently.
The old dacshund stopped & barked relentlessly at the bird. Amy could tell he was angry and scared. She finally smiled at the bird & apologized, while scratching under Leo's chin. He quickly calmed, licked Amy's leg for reassurance that she was still there & resumed walking.

Amy could tell Leo loved the sounds he couldn't hear & the sights he couldn't see.
He loved the feel of the ocean, and it's smells.

Leo loved it here, ........while Amy hated this place.

Soon they headed back to the Maple Trail & Leo said good bye to his new friend......the ocean and wagged his tail. He stopped & peed into the ocean; a long satisfying pee, and hoped the ocean would remember him.
For somehow Leo knew he would never return here........
