A few years have passed since I first set foot in Outworld. I am now 22 years old and I live in a small house with my "mother" Ashrah on the outskirts of the capital city of Outworld called Z'Unkahrah. Ashrah decided to bear the title of the mother to not draw any attention from the locals. In their eyes, Ashrah is a single mother that moved from Sun Do with her only son to raise him. Throughout the years Ashrah and I have almost become like mother and son not only in the eyes of the people but genuinely too. She knows about my past has helped me with my nightmares and works to raise me.
Another thing that changed my life was also the amazing powers that surfaced a year after we escaped here. I had the ability to control fire and make it appear out of thin air. Ashrah believes it's the result of a ritual that one of the priests of the brotherhood of Shadows did on me when I was young but also whipped my memory of the event since he thought it didn't work. Whatever the case was it was helpful.
Currently, I'm behind our house training with my double swords against some dummies. Ashrah had insisted that I learned self-defense at the start due to her not always being around because of work or other reasons. But basic self-defense is something I already knew from my past life so she decided it would be best to teach me a weapon to wield. From her amazing teaching I have learned how to wield a plethora of weapons like Bo staffs, swords, and a Bow with my favorite being the double swords.
"Raise your hand higher and make your stance more stable a gush of wind will knock you down if you stand like that" Ashrah called from the balcony above me calling out my mistakes.
"Got it"
I said and resumed the appropriate stance before continuing my training. After I was done I went to clean myself up in the bathroom and exited to find Ashrah getting ready for another bounty hunter.
"You didn't say you had another job?"
"When do I ever stop Satoshi?"
"True but still don't overwork yourself"
"I could say the same to you you've been improving a lot recently, I'm proud"
"Thank you"
"The job I'll be going was issued by the Kahn himself so it's bound to pay well, I should be back by dawn"
As she went to exit our home she turned to me once more.
"In the meantime, I need you to run a few errands for me while I'm gone"
"Like what?"
"Get groceries and pick up something I ordered from Re'em Adu there are enough coins to cover both in this pouch"
"Alright I will, stay safe"
"You too at any sign of hostility or if you see any Tarkatans you-"
"Come straight home, I know"
"Good"
With that, she was off. I might not have been her biological son but she cared a lot and also had a lot of reasons to be worried. In the span of 9 years, Shao Kahn has been killed after he recklessly tried to merge Earthrealm and Outworld. Now his old general Kotal and daughter Mileena were fighting for the title of Kahn. With Kotal being the current Kahn and Mileena leading a rebellion against him with her tarkatan army. Not wanting to waste another minute I take my brown cloak, and one of my swords and make my way to Re'em Adu's blacksmith to get what Ashrah ordered first in case it was too big to carry with groceries in hand. On the way, I dodge the children running around the place and greet some of the people I met while staying there. I reach Re'em's shop to see him working on weapons that were probably going for one of the two armies either way it didn't matter to me.
"Re'em, I'm here to pick up mothers order is it ready?"
"Ah Satoshi good to see you, yes your order is ready, let me go grab it"
Re'em said as he entered his shop a few minutes later coming out with a box the size of my forearm.
"This it?"
"Yep exactly what your mother ordered, that will be 300"
"My, haven't you been raising your prices"
"Well they are custom-made, I've never seen such things before and it took time to make them, so don't bother bargaining with me the price is set"
"I wasn't going to..."
"Liar"
"True"
I chuckled, paid what I owed, and left heading to the marketplace. The way there was somewhat crowded as usual and many voices could be heard from the shopkeepers yelling out their wares and prices. One voice though stood out to me since it was coming from directly behind me.
"Hey Satoshi, how have you been?"
I turned in the direction of the voice to find no other than Erron Black a gunslinger mercenary under the employment of Kotal Kahn but above that a good friend of mine.
"Oh, you know the usual. Training, errands, the occasional running for your life from a tarkatan invasion. How about you?"
"Tsk. Got stuck on patrol a lot this week but I guess it's better than being anywhere near the Kahn, this rebellion is making him grumpier by the minute..."
"Don't talk bad about your employer Erron, it might come back and bite you on the ass"
"Whatever, mind joining me today?"
"Sure but not for long I do need to get groceries at some point"
"We are going towards the central market so this works out for you, c'mon let's go"
Erron, his guards, and I made our way to the central market to find it even more crowded. As I was walking I noticed all the stares that the Kahn's fleet, Erron, and I were getting from some of the citizens. This wasn't uncommon, some were happy with Kotal being Kahn some weren't but would it hurt for them not to stare like they want to murder me in my sleep?
"Don't pay them any mind their too chicken to do anything"
Erron reassured and he was right there were too many people around and too many guards. It would be downright stupid to attack. At least I'm glad that I had my hood up somewhat hiding my face from them. We made our way down the market slowly seeing fewer and fewer people but something was off. The people were whispering like handmaidens about something and within a few minutes, we stumbled upon the source. A group of young people two of which were females and looked like they were from the army, one male looking like a ninja and another male looking like a monk.
"Earthrealmers... be prepared". Erron said and we approached them somewhat catching the last bit of their conversation
"It's not an alliance. Non-aggression pact. Outworld is not our ally."
"A point you might make with more subtlety, given your surroundings. Now state your business. Including a reason why we shouldn't kill you." Erron chimed in as the Kahn's fleet surrounded them. One of the Earthrealmers in the back put his hand on his head and spoke.
"I can read you. You're not from Outworld and neither are you" He said and then looked at me. Once I got a better look at him my eyes widen once my eyes landed on the symbol on his bandana. The voices of Erron and one of the Earthrealmers were muffled as I stared at the young man at the back or more like as I stared at the symbol on his bandana.
'The symbol of my clan, the symbol of my family...'
