Steve and Adeline parked the motorcycle outside his building and he lead them to his apartment. On their way, his neighbor, Kate same out with some laundry while on the phone with her aunt. Adeline instantly thought about how Steve and Kate could hit it off. Adeline took her flannel off and threw it to the side then acted like nothing happened .
"That's so sweet, that's so nice. Hey, I gotta go though. Okay, bye" she said on the phone,hung up and turned to Steve. "My aunt she's kind of an insomniac." She explained.
Steve smiled at her.
"Yeah, who's this?" Indicating to Adeline.
"This is a childhood friend of mine, Adeline. It's her first day here and I've been showing her around" Steve introduced.
"I'm Kate , nice to meet you" Kate greeted holding her hand out.
"It's nice to meet you too" Adeline replied shaking Kates hand, then said "Oh, I forgot my flannel, I'll be right back"
She walked off turning the corner to hide to listen to their conversation and put on her flannel. Steve knowing what she was doing but went with it anyway.
"Hey, if you want...if you want, you're welcome to use my machine. Might be cheaper than the one in the basement" Steve offered.
"Oh yeah, what's it cost?" Kate asked
"A cup of coffee?" Steve said
Adeline smiled at the conversation and almost squealed but held it back.
"Thank you, but um..I already have a load in downstairs, and uh..you really don't want my scrubs in your machine. I just finished orientation in the infectious diseases ward so.." Kate explained.
"Ah, well I'll keep my distance" Steve assured.
"Well hopefully not too far" Kate replied
"Aww" Adeline said to herself
Steve nodded and Adeline came back into view.
"Got it" she said making her presence known.
She walked up next to Steve and leaned on the wall with a smirk on her face. Steve turned to unlock the door and noticed the smirk on Adeline's face.
"You like her. I can't wait to tease you about it" Adeline said telepathically causing Steve to roll his eyes.
"Oh, and I think you left your stereo on" Kate informed.
"Oh, right thank you" Steve said
"Yeah," Kate said and left
Steve and Adeline then directed their attention to the door. They faintly heard music coming from the other side of the door.
"What do we do?" Adeline whispered.
"Well go through the back window using the fire escape stairs" Steve whispered back.
They went through the window, Steve grabbed his shield, and both got ready with Adeline's hands having a glow on them. They looked around the corner cautiously and saw Nick on the couch. Adeline has never met Nick so she kept a defensive position, Steve gave her the signal to stand down, so she did and the glow around her hands disappeared.
"I don't remember giving you a key" Steve said
"You really think I need one? My wife kicked me out" Nick replied
"Didn't know you were married" Steve responded
"A lot of things you don't know about me" Nick said
"I know Nick thats the problem" Steve responded
Steve turned the light on, seeing Nick was injured. This worried both Steve and Adeline, but Nick signaled for them to be quiet. Nick turned the light back off and wrote a text on his phone and shows it to them.
"Ears everywhere. Adeline stay quiet"
Adeline nodded and Nick nodded back
" I'm sorry to have to do this, but I had no place else to crash" Nick said
He typed another message down and showed it to them.
"SHIELD compromised"
"Who else knows about your wife?" Steve asked, catching on
Nick showed them yet another text
"You two and me"
"Just...my friends" Nick answered
"Is that what we are?" Steve asked
"That's up to you" Nick responded
Then someone shot Nick three times through the wall and he fell. Steve looked out the window to see the shooter while Adeline used her powers to drag Nick to the next room. They both knelt down by Nick where he handed a flash drive over to Steve.
"Don't...trust anyone" Nick told them before he blacked out.
The door burst open and Steve and Adeline looked to see Kate.
"Captain and Nightshade?" She asked causing Adeline to look at her confused
"How does she know me by that name?" Adeline thought to her self
They noticed she had a gun
"I'm agent 13 of SHIELD Special Service" she introduced
"Well that makes sense" Adeline thought
"Kate?" Steve questioned
"I'm assigned to protect both of you" she explained
"On who's order?" Steve and Adeline asked
That's when Kate/Sharon noticed Nick on the ground injured and unconscious.
"His" Sharon answered quickly kneeling down by Nick, then informed through her radio, "Foxtrot is down, he's unresponsive. I need EMT's"
"Do you have a twenty on the shooter?" A SHIELD agent asked
That's when Steve and Adeline saw the shooter through the window.
"Tell him we're in pursuit" Steve told her.
They smashed through the window and ran after the assassin. Steve smashed through an office building smashing through the walls, Adeline right behind him. When they finally caught up with him on the roof, he threw his SHIELD at the assassin, but he caught it with one swift move, and threw it back at him. As Adeline was about to throw an energy beam (I think that's what it's called🤷🏻♀️) at him, he jumped off the building and disappeared. They both looked over the edge to see he was gone.
"Who was that?" Adeline asked
"I don't know, but we need to go and see if Fury is going to be okay" Steve said.
She nodded and they both quickly headed back to the building.
