Natasha made it to the hospital in a rush and met up with Steve and Adeline. The doctors were operating on Nick to remove any bullets.
"Is he gonna make it?" Nat wondered
"I don't know" Steve answered
"Tell me about the shooter" Natasha said
"He's fast and strong. Had a metal arm" Adeline responded
"You're the one they unfroze right?" Natasha asked, Adeline nodded
"Natasha Romanoff" Nat introduced herself
"Adeline Barnes, nice to meet you" Adeline introduced herself as well
Agent Hill soon joined the three by the window
"Ballistics?" Natasha asked
"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable" Hill answered
"Soviet-made" Nat guessed
"Yeah," Hill responded
Nicks heart stopped and the nurses and doctors scrambled to get him back. Steve, Adeline, Nat, and Hill stood there watching in shock as Nick was unresponsive.
"Don't do this to me Nick" Nat pleaded
Nick was then shocked with the defibrillator, but he didn't respond. So they did it again, but he was still unresponsive.
"Don't do this to me Nick. Don't do this to me" Natasha continued to beg
They could only watch as the doctors continued to use the defibrillator. But Nick still wasn't responding, so the doctors called his death. Steve turned away, so did Adeline as a tear rolled down her face.
She didn't know Nick but he is the reason she was reunited with Steve and the reason she is no longer a HYDRA weapon.
She walked over to Steve, who was looking at the flash drive. She approached him and side hugged him. Steve wrapped his arm around her and rested his head on hers.
Natasha, Steve, and Adeline were in a room where Nicks body was laying on a table. Natasha was crying as she looked at Nick, Hill came up to Steve and Adeline.
"I need to take him" Hill said
"Natasha" Steve called
She simply placed her hand on Nicks forehead taking one last look and walked out.
"Natasha!" Steve called after her as Adeline followed
"Why was Fury in your apartment? I know Adeline won't know but I know you do" Natasha asked.
"I don't know" Steve shrugged
Rumlow came up to them
"Cap, they want you and Nightshade back at SHIELD," Rumlow informed as he stole a glance at Adeline.
"Yeah, give us a second" Steve answered
"They want you both now" Rumlow said
"Okay" Steve answered then turned back to Nat
"You're a terrible liar" Nat said and walked off
"STRIKE teams, escort Cap and Nightshade back to SHIELD immediately for questioning." Sitwell commanded over Rumlow's earpiece.
"I told them" Rumlow responded
Steve and Adeline noticed the vending machine next to them and looked at each other, Adeline nodded. Once they hid the flash drive they walked toward Rumlow.
"Let's go" Steve said putting a protective arm around Adeline seeing How Rumlow looked at her.
"Yeah" Rumlow answered, making eye contact with Adeline and winking at her.
Adeline felt uncomfortable and scooted closer to Steve.
"STRIKE, move out" Rumlow told the agents.
