it was not fine.

in fact, hoshi already had a gut feeling that things would turn south the second they stepped foot into the forest, a cold wind brushing past him and making him zip his jacket all the way up.

but now, he was standing side by side with the one person he couldn't talk to, the smaller of the pair rushing ahead.

if he could turn back time, he would've chosen any other shape other than rock in rock paper scissors which for them, determined their hunting partner. but alas, he didn't have such power and as such, he was stick with none other than woozi, the boy hacking at overgrown weeds with what hoshi assumed to be a knife.

ever since they started walking 30 minutes ago, neither has said a word to one another and hoshi found himself praying that somehow, they'd stumble onto another group from their class or elsewhere to kill the awkwardness that surrounded them.

"hoshi." his voice shocked hoshi, the boy jumping back slightly and trying to find his words to respond. "can you walk faster? we haven't found shit and we've been at this for half an hour," woozi said, turning around and glaring at him.

hoshi nodded, fighting the urge to comment about how time was a mere construct and the possibility of them fully exploring the forest was alarmingly low-

"also, what was that picture from yesterday?" hoshi stopped dead in his tracks, embarrassment creeping in and making his face flush red. "do you have a crush on me?" woozi asked, his arms folded as he stared right into hoshis' eyes.

"a crush is but a mere-" woozi rolled his eyes, throwing a thin branch he had picked up from the ground at hoshi. "but no! i don't have a crush on you! wouldn't it be weird if i did since you know, you haven't really been the biggest fan of me-"

"good." hoshi watched as a look of relief formed on his face for a fraction of a second before it returned to its' usual cold allure. "because if you did, that would be a waste of feelings since i'd never reciprocate anything," woozi said, turning around and continuing his walk, completely unaware of how his words were like bullets shot through hoshis' heart.
