darkness — that was the first sight jeonghan saw when he opened his eyes.

slowly, he propped himself up, a faint buzz still lingering in his head, his eyes trying to adjust to the nothingness he saw.

he whispered his song under his breath, his hair glowing faintly before he felt a tug which caused him to immediately stop and plunged him back to darkness.

taking a deep breath, with his outstretched arms, he felt around his surroundings and tentatively stood up, the buzz getting worse and worse the more seconds he spent conscious.

the next thing he felt was a prick, nails like thorns holding onto the crown of his head and pressing down hard. his headache throbbed, all his thoughts completely disappearing and the only thing he could feel being immense pain.

but he knew he was being played with.

"dokyeom?" he whispered, straining his eyes to see past all the emptiness he was presented with. "dokyeom i'm here to save you somehow."

for a moment, the pain subsided before returning full force and yet, he bit back the tears he so wish he could shed. "dokyeom we miss you. it's been a while since you've-" a cold wind brushed past him and gritting his teeth, he walked in the direction it came from, his hand trailing the walls to help orient himself.

"hey...shua misses you you know?" despite the lack of response, something told jeonghan that he was there because if he weren't, he would've already been caught by whoever kept checking the arena at night. "he loves you just as much as you love him and with the signing ceremony being in 2 months, it's really taking a toll on him too so-"

a light.

it was faint but nevertheless jeonghan walked towards it, ignoring his own shivering and the fatigue that seemed to be piling onto him.

and sure enough, in the corner of a cell sat dokyeom, the boy curled into a ball and trembling as his hands let out a small ball of light.

"hannie..." his voice was small, the light flickering as he kept looking down, refusing to meet his eyes. "it's not safe here." the shadow returned and sat limply next to dokyeom.

"were you trying to use that to scare me away or try to help me?" jeonghan asked, pointing at the shadow. dokyeom didn't move, eyes still trained on the ground. "is there a way to get you out?"

"but i'm a danger aren't i? i'll put everyone in danger because i can't control the dark magic in my bloodstream," he whispered, pressing himself further into the corner and the light from his palms getting smaller and smaller. "and i keep hurting people because of it too-"

"well being down here can't be good for you either can it?" jeonghan said. "plus, i think shua would really be happy to have you back."

"but...would he still like me if i looked like this?" he looked up revealing half his face shattered, the cracks being filled with nothing but dark ooze and eyes that were painted completely black while the other half was stained with tears, bruises and a tiredness that sucked all the life out of him. "i look like a monster of sorts and i don't think he would-"

"dokyeom?" a green light followed by blue shone through the path, the shadow immediately snuffing out their light before attempting to attack but stopping right in front of none other than joshua.

"i think he'd like you either way," jeonghan murmured, dinos flame reigniting and shining upon the pure relief on joshuas' face upon seeing dokyeom.

the trio walked towards them, the shadow circling them before giving up and returning to sit beside dokyeom, the boy staring at them wide eyed.

"shua-"

before he could finish his sentence, joshua brandished the sword he had been carrying and sliced at the lock of his cell, the chains falling helplessly to the floor.

"shua i-" the next thing he knew, he was being held tightly in his arms, the older breathing a sigh of relief while dokyeom let his head fall in the crook of his neck.

"i missed you minnie."

also yea it was dokyeom who saved jeonghan and not seungcheol i do apologise but there'll be waaay more moments between those 2 so 🤩
