"I am not third wheeling!" Maddy exclaimed as she sat on my bed.
"It's not third wheeling!" I replied, using the wall to balance me as I put on my sneakers. "We're not even dating!"
"I don't know if smoking weed has like, fucked with your brain but last I checked, boys don't tag along to nail salons unless they're gay or a brother." Maddy narrowed her eyes at me. "Tell me, is Ashtray gay, Mia?"
I rolled my eyes at her dramatic ass.
"We both know his fine ass ain't gay," I muttered. Maddy laughed at my honesty, not expecting me to come up and say something like that.
"Girl, you better hop on that train soon," Maddy shrugged. "You ain't the only one who thinks he's fine," I knew this, everybody knew this. Back in our early stages of our friendship, I asked around about him. Everybody told me different things about him
"Ashtray don't date."
"He's the white boy of the month but like...every month."
"I tried getting with him but he like, ignored me the entire time,"
"He's a fucking asshole who has no feelings."Yeah, a lot of people had opinions on him.
"Right now, I just wanna be friends and I'm pretty sure he feels the same way," I told her. "Cmon, he's outside." I tried changing the subject. Maddy and I made it outside to Ash opening my car door for me. He wore a simple Nike tech suit, reminding me of the night we met except this one was all grey. A black shirt peeked through and his chain laid on his chest.
"That is the most fuckboy outfit I have ever seen," I teased, thanking him for closing my door. Ash shook his head at me.
"You know I'm fine shawty," He teased back then looked at my fit. I was wearing cargo pants that fit snugly around my thighs and waist but were baggy around my legs along with a cropped white tee and some sneakers. It was a simple fit for a nail salon. "Hm, basic,"
"You're an asshole," I laughed at him, noting how his eyes didn't just scan me but took in the details.
"Please, can the flirting be saved for when I'm not here?" Maddy groaned from the backseat. "It's so cute, I think I'm actually going to throw up." Ash noticeably changed his demeanor, forgetting that someone was in the car. He lost his smile and replaced it with his usual stoic face. I noticed and shook my head at him as we drove to the nail salon.
One thing about me was that I loved the details. I studied Ash as he drove, the music loud so it was hard to speak over. His seat was pushed back dramatically, not that it mattered because his long legs were still bent as they reached the peddles.
One arm was on wheel while the other lazily laid in his lap. I made eye contact with Maddy in the rear view mirror as she caught me assessing him.
"You're not slick bitch," She mouthed. I flipped her off sneakily as she laughed. When we arrived, Ash excused himself, saying he was going to grab some food.
"You want sum?" He asked before he left. I shook my head as he gave me a look.
"Seriously, maybe after?" I asked. he seemed satisfied with my answer before going to the food court.
As Maddy and I sat in our chairs, the nail technicians started their magic.
"What's been up with you and lover boy?" I conversed. Maddy sighed heavily and rolled her eyes.
"I don't know, we broke up again but he hasn't stopped trying to win me back," She said, both of us focusing on our nails. "I just think he went too far this time but it sucks because at the end of the day, no matter what I do or say...I'll still love him."
