Out in Chicago,
Matt Casey was on shift when the news was on and Chief Boden was waiting for everyone as he had seen the news before. The newscast played the story. "This is CNN with Breaking news. We have just received word that a fire truck was involved in an accident while responding to an emergency. Now this is still a wild scene right now as civilians from the UK are very upset at what they have witnessed. Our UK Correspondent: Hallie Peterson is on the scene right now. Hallie, what have you got for us?" The anchor reported.
"Yeah, well, I'm standing here on a road that leads between two towns. They call it the coast road for some reason, but as you can see here, this red Fire Engine has been involved in an accident while responding to an emergency. The driver of the other vehicle was rescued and transported to Newtown Hospital. We have yet to identify both the driver of the fire engine and the driver of the car. What we have learned is that the fire engine was on its way to a fire on Pontypandy Mountain. That Fire has now been extinguished and contained by Mountain Rescue at a rate of 100% containment. The fire engine is owned and operated by the Pontypandy Fire Service under the name of Jupiter. As of right now, members of the public here were outraged by a firefighter which they claimed had negligence issues. We will report back as soon as more is available. Reporting live in Pontypandy. Hallie Peterson, CNN."
All of Firehouse 51 was shocked and Joe stepped out to the bunk room where Boden and Casey found him. "Cruz. You ok?" Casey asked him.
"Yeah... I-I'm fine, Captain."
"Doesn't sound like it to me."
"Ugh... Fine... I've been thinking about my vehicle accident when I was on 81. That was between us and Truck 66. Welch and Molina were later taking the heat for me as he came clean... Since then, I still have haunting memories when I hear a truck from a Fire Department is collided."
"Cruz. I've been where you were. I was involved in an accident on Squad 4 before my promotion to Captain." Boden told him.
"Really, Chief?"
"Yeah... We had a driver who was following us because of an incident way back and he... He rammed into the squad truck and caused it to crash into another car. I escaped unharmed but my driving privileges were suspended and then withdrawn. Just like yours."
"Chief Boden is known to things like this, Cruz. Hmm... I'll tell you what. Why don't we pay the firefighters a visit in case they need help." Casey added.
"Sounds like a plan. I'll tell Herrmann. Casey... Do you mind calling Dawson back and tell her to meet us at O'Hare Airport?" Boden asked his captain.
"Copy that, Chief."
Back in Wales,
Everyone was at Newtown Hospital and an Ambulance pulled up with Police and Phoenix right behind them. Ellie came rushing out to the parking bay where all three ambulances arrived. One had Elvis, the second one had the driver, and the third one had Kyle and his eye injury. "What happened, Elvis?" Ellie asked.
"Driver came out of nowhere."
"Where?"
"Newtown Road... We were on our way to Pontypandy Mountain when the driver came out and followed Jupiter before coming out of nowhere and crashing into Jupiter..."
"Is everyone ok? Who was driving?"
"Penny was..."
"Where is she now?"
"With Police getting blood tests for impairment and who else knows..."
"Yeah... I see... I've been there before. Come on, let's get inside and I'll patch you up while the doctors take a look at Kyle's eye."
"Ok, Ellie."
Sam and Arnold were sitting by the nurses station talking about the scene amongst themselves. Station Officer Steele was waiting for word on Kyle with Boyce and the station officer from Kyle's current station in the London Fire Brigade. "How's Penny doing?" Arnold asked.
"Ah. Don't know. Police are all over her demanding blood samples and who else knows, Arnold... It's bad news... I don't like it."
"Me neither."
"Ugh... I hate it when this happens, Sam!"
"Me too, Arnold. But it's standard Procedure. We'll look into some solutions as soon as we get back to the station."
"Ok, Sam."
Penny came back to the waiting area holding a small bandage on her arm where they collected blood samples. She was so embarrassed by the scenes unfolding in front of her. The public was right outside A&E with security and Police keeping them out including the press. "How's Kyle?" Penny asked the two.
"No idea. They haven't finished figuring out what happened to his eye."
"It's like... Chicago Fire Department with Truck 81 and Truck 66 colliding into each other. Only this time, ours involved a Civilian and the Public... They are not happy..." Arnold added.
"I really shouldn't have been there, Sam..." Penny told them.
"Hey. Hey, hey, hey... It's ok. We're gonna find out what happened. The Police will find out... Ok?" Sam calmed her.
Penny nodded and sat down in an empty chair while Elvis was being checked over by Ellie in another cubicle. Meanwhile, Kyle had his eye checked out by the doctor. She was surprised by the injury sustained in the crash. "Is there good news?" Kyle asked.
"Yeah... But some of it is bad news..."
"Really? What is the bad news?"
"You've got a lot of debris in there and I'm going to have to clean that out. But the injury didn't penetrate the cornea, and that tissue heals quickly."
"So I'll be able to see out of that eye?"
"Vision should be fully restored, yes."
"Oh, thank God... Okay."
Outside, Elvis and Ellie were heading out back to the waiting area where the others were while Kyle was resting and waiting to have the debris cleaned from his eye. He was lucky he can still see but he will be needing some time off. "I'm telling you, Elvis. This is why the public always wants it their way. They always think that this accident was a big deal because of an innocent civilian. I have news that he is going to pull through." Ellie told him.
"Oh... Thank God... Why did he have to do this..."
"I don't know, Elvis... Probably something to do with another call a long time ago. Unless it was someone that has known Penny since school."
"Your guess is as good as mine."
Station Officer Steele was ready to head back to the station after Boyce and his team from HQ had left the hospital and the public was furious with the fire service. "Ok... Everyone from Pontypandy Fire Service... Pack it up. Penny... PC Malcolm will drive you back to the station with Sergeant Ravani. Firefighter Phillips, you're on duty in a few hours." He told them all.
"Yes, sir." They all replied.
Everyone except for Ellie left for the Fire Station while Kyle was still awaiting medical treatment for his injury at the accident scene. Penny was met with an angered public crowd from earlier after they heard a civilian collided with Jupiter. She got in Malcolm's Police car and Rose drove back to the fire station with Malcolm escorting them at the front while Venus had Sam and Arnold. Phoenix was carrying Elvis and Station Officer Steele back to the station. Jupiter was towed back to the Police Station for repairs, the damage was bad but it is repairable.
