Demi

Kay has given me until December to finish the sequel. That still only gives me 3 months but it's better than nothing. I hope I manage to find some sort of inspiration by then.

The first thing I noticed as I climbed from the back of the Uber was Jesse. He was stood in his driveway, chatting to someone on the phone. He glanced over at me, his lips twitching into a wide smile as he lifted his hand up. I gave him a wave, suddenly finding myself walking towards him. He finished his conversation and then shoved his phone into his pocket. He remained where he was, flashing me a smile.

"I didn't expect to see you so soon" he lightly joked. I really hope my burning cheeks aren't obvious to him.

"Are-Are you all moved in?"

"Yeah, finished yesterday. I just have some boxes to empty. I used to live in an apartment so there's a lot of empty space to fill" he softly laughed, the sound instantly made me smile. "You got any plans today?" I shook my head.

"I've just been in to LA for some work stuff that's as exciting as my day gets" my cheeks burnt as his lips twitched into a smirk and he gently laughed.

"You want to come inside? It'll be nice to get to know my neighbour a little more" my brain was telling me not to be stupid but I ignored it and accepted anyway. His house was almost identical to mine, it was just a little bare. "Sorry for any of the mess" I shook my head as I flashed him a light smile. I followed him into the kitchen and then slid onto the stool at the counter. "The first thing I unpacked was the coffee machine" my lips twitched at the corners as he joked. "Can't survive the day without a coffee" I nibbled on my lip.

"I know how you feel. I can't function without it" his lips spread into a smile as he grabbed two mugs. I glanced around the kitchen as I played with my fingers, he needs some more homely decorations. Jesse slid a mug towards me and I flashed him a thankful smile as I wrapped my hands around it.

"So, how long have you been married?" the question caught me off guard. His eyes darted down to my hands. I glanced down at my own hands and at the silver band on my finger. I suddenly remembered that I'm married. I have a husband.

"Oh, erm, I-I've been married for 7 years" I bit down on my lip as I twirled my ring around on my finger.

"Is he the guy you left with this morning?" my heart jumped at the thought of him watching me.

"Are you spying on me?" he nervously laughed, glancing down at the floor. I could have sworn his cheeks were reddening. I lightly smiled as my own cheeks began to heat up.

"No, I-I just noticed you this..." his voice slowly trailed off.

"That was Matthew, my best friend. I'm definitely not his type" I lightly laughed. "My husbands away with work. He's in New York at the moment. He's hardly ever home, it seems" Jesse's lips spread into a light smile.

"That's his loss" his eyes seemed to sparkle slightly. I pulled my eyes off his and glanced down at my mug.

"So, are you married?" I bit down on my lip as I glanced back up at him. He lightly laughed as he shook his head.

"Definitely not. I was engaged but it didn't work out, we broke up a few months back. We wanted two different things. I'm currently living the bachelor life" his lips twitched into a light smirk. I nodded as I flashed him a light smile.

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"It was complicated" he leant back against the counter, lifting his mug up to his lips. I did the same, taking brief glances at him as I took a sip. I felt my cheeks burning as our eyes locked. I lowered my mug back down onto the counter. "So, what is it that you do for work?"

"I'm an author. I write romance novels."

"What's your last name? I'll have to check you out."

"Erm, Lovato. It-It's my maiden name. I worked hard for the degree, why should I use my married name" he loudly laughed as he nodded. "What is it that you do?" I wanted to take the attention off me.

"I own a restaurant in LA. I'm working towards opening another in San Diego next year."

"That must be stressful?"

"It isn't too bad. The hardest part is finding trustable staff" I nodded, glancing down at my hands. "I'm holding a housewarming sort of thing tomorrow. Perhaps you could come and if your husband's home, he can come too?" I bit down on my lip as I nodded. I kind of hope he isn't home.

"Yeah, that-that'll be nice" I nodded, my cheeks on fire. "Anyway, I should leave you to unpack. I-I've wasted enough of your time" he softly laughed as he shook his head. I downed the last of the coffee and then handed him the mug. "It was lovely getting to know you" he nodded as he held his hand out for me to shake.

"We should make this a regular thing" my smile widened ever so slightly, my heart hammering as our hands touched and an electric sort of shock shot down my spine. His gorgeous blue eyes held me captive for a moment and I couldn't look away.

"Erm, thank you for the coffee and the company" he nodded, glancing down at the floor as I pulled my hand from his grip. "See you tomorrow" he nodded, glancing back up at me.

"See you tomorrow, Demi" my name sounded incredible coming from him. It slid effortlessly off his tongue. I flashed him a smile and sent him a wave as I walked out his front door and I stepped onto the driveway. I almost ran over to my house, fumbling with my keys to unlock the front door. I collapsed onto the bottom step of the stairs, trying to catch my breath as my heart hammered against my chest. I've never felt like this. Even with Wilmer, he's never made me feel like this. My entire body is tingling from his simple touch. There are literal butterflies in my stomach. I'm screwed.
