Hello everyone! This is the edited version of chapter 1! It is most likely not the final version but it's somewhat better than it was. I will be slowly editing each chapter as I make my way to 10K and each chapter will say EDITED above it if I have gotten that far so bear with it because it will be edited and then very unedited.... If that makes sense? Okay continue please! EDITED!

Brynn POV

I worked my long chocolate hair into a messy ponytail, bangs falling out across my forehead. It hung loose and straight and slightly off to the right as all my up-dos tended to. I then slipped into a pair of jeans and pulled on a loose white shirt from my drawer, both of which I had bought the week before. I threw on a blue cardigan and slipped my sock clad feet into my beat up black converse.

Today was my first day at Fircrest High. Fircrest, Washington that is, my new home. I had moved here less than a month ago and had yet to make any friends due to my habit of watching Netflix for hours on end. My mom bugged me for hours on end about leaving the house but I had refused explaining that there would be plenty of time for friends when school began, but there were only so many days of summer to catch up on Gossip Girl.

I looked in the mirror and frowned at my tired appearance. I applied some foundation under my eyes to cover up the bags and evened it out across my cheeks. Next came eyeliner which I winged out to the sides, and that was followed by mascara.

Closing my bedroom door, I skipped down the stairs, shoes sqeaking against the polished wood. I jogged through the dining room and stopped in the kitchen. I stood there for a few minutes, staring into the fridge and then moving to the pantry. The nervous butterflies that always came on the first day of school, and especially on my first day of a new school, were masking my hunger and I decided to skip breakfast this morning.

My mom, in her five-foot-four glory, strode into the kitchen, golden-brown locks bouncing around her face as she moved. Her bright blue eyes sparkled with energy, despite it being so early. I did my best to smile back but I really just wanted to go back to sleep.

"Brynn, you better leave soon, and eat something!" She frowned playfully as she said this.

"I'm not hungry right now but I'll eat lunch don't worry." I mumbled, knowing she wouldn't be happy with me skipping a meal.

"Eat," She stated, grabbing a banana out of the fruit bowl. She held it out towards me with one hand on her hip.

"Mom really I can't eat right now." I turned around and walked into the other room.

"Brynn!" She called, chasing after me. "Take it with you!"

I groaned. "Fine. Give me it." I grabbed my bag from its place beside the front door and retrieved my keys from the hook where they lived. "See you later!"

I swung open the door and stepped out into the mildly cold Washington morning. Glancing both ways across the empty street, I jogged across it to where my freshly washed car sat waiting for me. I hit the button to unlock the doors and pulled it open, falling heavily onto the leather seat.

I slid the key in the ignition and the engine roared to life. Maneuvering the car around the others on the sidewalk, I pulled away from the curb and took off down the street. I fiddled with the dial on the radio until it played my favorite country station and put the heater on low.

The scenery included trees, trees, the occasional squirrel, and what do you know, more trees. The view only lasted a couple minutes though because of the fact that I lived not ten minutes away from the school. I pulled into the parking lot, slowly making my way behind the other cars ahead of me. I found a parking space around the middle of the lot. I took off my seatbelt and pulled my bag off the passenger seat, slipping it over my shoulder. I opened the door and stepped out, only half ready to face the day.

I walked around the car next to mine, a battered black truck, and headed towards the school. The fact that everyone was staring at me as I walked did not go unnoticed and I immediately felt awkward. I knew it must've been weird for everyone to see a new face amoung the ones who had been here forever. Many people I passed were pointing and whispering to their friends. A few friendly looking people smiled at me, which I returned.

Shifting my bag to the other shoulder I glanced around at all the different friend groups, but my eyes locked with only one person's. His dark brown hair was tousled in a cute way and his brown eyes captured me even from this distance. I froze, mesmerized by him. Shaking my head, I tried to move, but just ended up dropping my bag on the ground. It was exactly something I would do.

I frowned as I looked at the binders and pencils splayed across the pavement. I bent down and began collecting the assorted writing utensils.

"Hey let me help you with that." I looked up to see none other than the boy that had caused me to drop everything. I didn't trust my words so I just nodded at him. "I'm Lucas."

"Hi um I'm Brynn. I'm new here. Wait you probably already knew that. That was kind of stupid." I laughed nervously. "I should stop talking now."

He grinned, showing off a set of perfectly straight teeth. "Here you go." Lucas handed me my binders, shoving them into a semi-neat pile.

"Thanks, I can be pretty clumsy sometimes I guess." I took them back, putting them back into the bag as Lucas held it open. I threw the pencils in the bottom, not bothering to put them back in the small plastic box they came in.

"Well Brynn, might you need a tour guide?" He asked, pushing his fingers through his dark hair. When I reached for my bag he held it back, holding it hostage as he waited for a reply.

"I suppose it would be pretty helpful to know where everything is." He smiled even wider, his eyes crinkling.

"My thoughts exactly! Follow me." Lucas walked slightly ahead of me as we approached the building. He stopped at a set of large double doors saying, "This is the front door. Very crucial information you know." I laughed and he opened the door, letting me go through first. "Let's go get your schedule, no use showing you classrooms you won't be using."

"Lead the way oh great tour guide." I chuckled, smiling at him.
