Lucas POV
Looking back, I probably should have told Brynn right away. I didn't though, we were having Sam's goodbye party tonight and I didn't want to bring her down.
Usually when a pack member leaves we have a small get together and say goodbye, but this time we decided it'd be fun to go all out. We also had to accept Brynn, although she didn't know it, and Holly into the pack. The entire pack would be there, with tons of food and music.
Brynn and I had gone back to the pack house not long after we finished cleaning. She was in the kitchen with most of the girls preparing the food and us guys were setting up outside, tables and chairs and the such.
The image of Brynn's father weighed heavily on my mind. When someone spoke to me, I was too preoccupied to hear them, to which they responded with curious glances.
"Hey, Luke!" Kyle called from where he stood next to a pair of very large speakers. "Come help me figure this out!" I figured I'd better help him, those were expensive speakers and he was liable to break them.
I walked over to him and lifted one, gesturing to where we would put them. Setting it down I took the directions from Kyle and opened them. "Okay, so, I think we need to plug them together with this," I held up a cord with two plug in ends. "Then we plug this into an outlet and into... Something else..."
Emmitt's dad walked up then and took the instruction booklet. "I think it might be easier if I took care of this." He smiled in greeting. Emmitt's seven-year-old sister ran after Damien's little brother, screeching that she'd get him.
I scratched the back of my neck, "Yeah probably." I went over to where Taylor and Bryan were unloading boxes of paper plates, plastic utensils, and napkins. "Need any help here?" I asked, moving another box forward.
"I think we got it," Taylor said, pulling out a plastic wrapped thing of napkins.
"Okay, cool." I looked around me to see where I could do something. Lacey and Damien were setting up around the pool, the paw shaped pool shall I mention. Kyle had gone to help Vanessa, Bree, and Lindsey with the remaining chairs and tables. Jared, Megan, and Kenzie focused on getting the fire pit all ready, maybe I could help with that.
I walked over to them and asked if they needed help, which they easily agreed to. I lugged logs, from the stack near the edge of the trees, to the deep stone pit and tossed them in. When it was filled I brushed my hands on my grey jeans and walked toward the house, more specifically the kitchen.
Inside were Brynn, Beck, Paige, Lilah, and Bella. Brynn worked with Bella, making fruit salad and dessert. Beck poked at what smelled like chickens in the oven. Lilah was throwing various veggies into a large salad bowl and Paige was collecting all the sodas and other drinks.
Deciding they didn't need any help with what they were doing, I headed upstairs to shower. It was only five and none of the other pack members would show up until six.
I opened the door to my room and shut it as I walked in. I pulled out my blue and green swim trunks and a fitted white v-neck. Closing the drawers, I walked into the bathroom and turned on the water.
