One year earlier.
Summer had officially started in Fresno California, which meant bonfires in the alleys and house parties. The only bad thing about summers in Fresno is the number of deaths they get in the summertime.
Someone was always hanging up signs for missing animals, children, or even a babysitting job, money was the last thing people could afford in Fresno.
The weather in the Fresno summer was always warm or hot. Being outside literally always felt like hell but some people didn't mind that feeling, they were already heading in that direction. Some people's houses smelled like air fragrance, ass, sweat, or even shitty diapers.
You always had to have a group of friends living in this area, one wrong move and you're on a missing sign saying "have you seen them." some friends knew each other from school, but this group of friends you're about to meet met in a crazy predicament.
Aspen woke up around three pm, turning over to see her daughter, not in the bed. "Mom, do you have Dallas?" Aspen yelled out getting kind of worried. "Yes!" she heard her mom say.
Aspen got up, went into the bathroom, and got ready for the day. She put on some shorts and put on her hoodie. Aspen knew the weather outside, she didn't leave the house without a hoodie on ever, she didn't like everyone seeing her scars.
"Where are you going?" her mom asked as aspen opened the front door. "I'm going over to Cains." She said. Cain was Aspen's best friend since she was thirteen, she was there every time he would get out of jail. "What about Dallas?" her mom asked, pointing to the baby who was eating pancakes. "Send her to Luca's."
Aspen wasn't ready to be a mom ever, she was forced to have the child by her ex cause they were supposedly meant to be. Once the baby came Luca started cheating on her with her ex-best friend Delaney who was also Cain's ex.
Aspen walked down the street, seeing two tall boys walk off Cains porch. "Why is it that Every time you come over, you look like you're on drugs," Cain said. "But some important people are coming over so what you want?" he asked. Aspen knew what that meant, she just wanted weed to deal with the panic attacks that she had been having.
Everyone knew who Cain King was, he was popular in the streets of Fresno. He was nice as long as you didn't fuck him over. Cain didn't know his parents much, they both died when he was two, then his grandma took him into her care until he was fourteen. Three months after Cains's fourteenth birthday, his grandma had passed. He doesn't bring his parents or his grandma up much, but if you're friends with him, you knew the whole story. Cain was eighteen now, he had one year of high school left, he always said he wasn't gonna make it till graduation, every day he lived it as if it was gonna be his last.
"I just need something to deal with my panic attacks, so if you can help me out that would be nice, I get paid next week," Aspen told Cain, Cain charged everyone he dealt with, but he knew Aspen was a broke ass bitch, but he also knew she would try to pay him back whenever she could. "I have a joint in my room, ignore Delaney," Cain told aspen, He knew aspen didn't fuck with Delaney but he also had to take Delaney back cause he got tired of her begging.
Aspen went into Cain's bedroom and grabbed the joint, she could tell that Delaney was glaring at her, they didn't like each other, well correction Aspen didn't fuck with Delaney, Delaney tried getting with Aspen, but Aspen got bored quick.
"I don't know why you took her back, but thank you for the joint." Aspen said to Cain, walking off the porch, going home. Aspen walked inside, she was tired but she knew her mother was about to give her hell. "Aspen have you ever thought of foster care for Dallas?" her mom asked, Aspen sighed, she didn't want to have this conversation anymore. "Yes I have, but it's already too late for that mom, she knows who I am." Aspen responded. "Don't be fucking dumb now, she hasn't bonded with you." her mom snapped.
After twenty minutes of arguing, they both decided on foster care. Aspen couldn't take care of a baby, she was still growing up herself. "I'll tell Luca." her mom said as aspen went up the stairs and into her room.
All Aspen wanted was a normal life, no depression, no child that she was forced to have, and no mother who bitched at her every single day. One day she'll get that.
