Harry gasped in shock. The sound of the slap echoed in his ears. Before he could recover, his mother slapped him again, on the other cheek. Now, his body froze completely.
Why wasn't he doing anything? He looked at Zayn, but he didn't seem the least surprised. He stood there calmly, looking like he was waiting to get slapped again. But his mother seemed to be done.
"One was for hurting my son and the other for hurting my husband." She explained. "You are welcome."
Zayn gave her a faint smile, then reached out his hand. His mother placed her hand in his and he kissed her knuckles. "It's a pŀeasure meeting you, Your Majesty." He said then dropped her hand.
"Please sit." His mother motioned toward the table.
Zayn made his way to the table and pulled a chair out for his mother first. She thanked him with a smile and sat down. Then he pulled a chair out for Harry but he still stood frozen.
"Harry?" Her mother called.
"Yes," Harry forced her body to move and went to sit down. He looked at Zayn to see if he was alright, and he gave him a reassuring smile.
Once he got seated, a maid served them tea and left. His mother made sure they were completely alone, with no servant and no guards. This made Harry nervous.
"I know what happened to you and why you behaved the way you did. But as a mother, the most difficult thing is to see your child hurt. I think you know better than anyone."
Zayn nodded. "I do."
"I want to make sure he is with someone who will love and cherish him. Someone who will protect him from any harm." His mother continued.
"I'll love him selflessly, cherish him endlessly and protect him fearlessly." He said and then turned to Harry. He looked him in the eyes. "I will share his happiness and his pain."
Harry suddenly felt emotional. He fought back the tears that threatened to fill his eyes and smiled at him instead.
"Harry, why don't you leave me and Zayn alone for a moment?" His mother asked.
Harry panicked. Was something wrong? Did she not like him?
He looked at his mother and gave her a look, telling her to be nice before leaving. He waited outside, walking back and forth in the hall. What were they talking about? Was his mother scolding him?
Unable to contain himself after a while, he went to the door and placed his ear against it. He knew he shouldn't but he couldn't help himself.
Despite the thickness of the door, thanks to his supernatural hearing, he was able to hear his mother talk.
"What do you like about my son?" She asked. "He is young and not as experienced or as wise as you."
"We indeed gain wisdom and experience with age, but it is not your son's wisdom or experience that makes me love him. It is his kindness, his courage, and his will to live and learn. I might have more experience, but your son taught me more than what I have taught him."
Harry took a step back from the door. He didn't know why, but for some reason, he walked away. Maybe because he realized he didn't have to worry. Zayn was handling it well, and he should trust both him and his mother.
