"Rosemary?" Someone asked. I looked up and saw an officer looking back at me. "How about we take a little walk"

"I didn't do anything" I said in a  broken voice. He smiled kindly at me.

"I don't think you did" He said and grabbed my hand pulling me up from the living room couch. There were people in white suits everywhere. Taking photo's of literally everything. There were also three black body bags laying on the floor, Waiting to be used.

The officer opened the backdoor and walked out dragging me with him. I looked back and saw someone closing my mothers eyes before lifting her up and playing her in the body bag.

"Can you tell me what happened?" the officer asked when we left the garden and went away from all of the other police officers.

"I... They..." I didn't really knew how to begin my story. "I wasn't there"  I just simply said.

"I got that part" He said and smiled. "Where were you?"

"Upstairs" I said with a lump in my throat  "I was unpacking, We just came back from vacation"

"You'll have to come with us to take an official statement." He said, clearly not asking anymore questions even though I saw more written down.

"And after that?" I asked.

"You'll be placed under the protection of child services, They will decided where you go" He said and lead me to a cop car.

I tapped my foot on the hard ground of the interrogation room at the local police department. The police officer left 10 minutes ago after some woman walked in. I rested my head on the table and closed my eyes. Images of my family shot through my head. Just a week ago we were having the time of our lives at the beach.

I let out a sob and paced my hands over my head. I started crying and let out some 'colorful words'. The door opened and I heard the clicking of heels walking in. I looked up and saw the same woman as before.

"Hello Rosemary" She smiled sympathetically. "My name is Nikki Smith. I work for child services."

"Oh" I managed to say, Not really knowing what else to do. I wiped away some tears and sat up straight again. She sat down in front of me and placed the tablet she had in her hands on the table.

"I have to ask you some questions before we can determine where you'll stay for the next few weeks or maybe longer" she smiled hopefully. I fought back the urge to roll my eyes and nodded.

"Are you aware of the fact that you're adopted?" She asked. I nodded and she let out a relieved breath.

"When signing up a child for adoption the parents are offered a choice, If there is something to happen to the adoptive parents of the child whether of not they want to be notified or not." She said "Your biological parents said that they did want to hear that"

"So the police will tell it to them?" I asked and she nodded.

"There is of course a possibility that your parents gave you up due to their financial situation, If it is that case and the situation has improved and they are ready to take on a child now. They might take you back" She said. "Do you want the police to offer that scenario to your parents?"

It sounds like a whole lot of maybe's. But hey, Worst case scenario: They say no and I go to a new adoptive family. Best case scenario:  I get to see who my biological parents are.

"Yes please" I said wiping away some more tears.

"If they do say yes" She started "Child services is still to examine the household to see if they are actually ready to take on a child. And of course you will also go through mental examinations." She stood up and walked out. Leaving me alone again.

I don't want to get my hopes up just to get them crushed by a simple 'no'

But I also don't want to ping pong in between foster homes.

The door opened and a man walked in holding a cellphone.

"You can call whoever you like sweetie" He said with a smile and handed me the cellphone before walking out again. I grabbed it debating who I should call.

There really is only one person.

With shaky fingers I typed in my best friends number and pressed dial. It took him a long time to actually answer it.

"Hello?" I heard Austin say in a raspy voice. He coughed and repeated the "Hello"

"Hey, It's Rosemary" I said. I heard some background noises and people talking. But it took a long time for him to actually say something.

"I'm so sorry Rose" He said.

He's at my house, Or at least as far as the police will allow him to be.

"Are you there?" I asked.

"Yeah" He said. "Where are you?"

"The police department" I said. "they're gonna call my biological parents" I stood up from the chair and started nervously pacing around the room.

"what why?" He asked surprised. I heard him walking away from the house, The noises got quieter.

"Because when they placed me for adoption they said they wanted to be told if something  happened to my adoptive parents" I said. He was quiet for a while. Probably frowning. He always does that when he's thinking.

"Don't get your hopes up" He finally said.

"I won't" I lied.

"I'm coming over to you" He said. "To the police department I mean."

"Well then I'll see you soon" I said.

"See ya!" He said and hung up.

A few seconds later the door opened and Nikki walked back in.

"I called your parents" she said. "Your mother picked up, So she obviously can't take the decision herself. She is gonna talk it over with your father and your brother and will call back tomorrow."

I have a brother?

She's considering it?
