"Oh, they're home!" Isla gasped as she heard a car pulling up into the driveway. She was excited to see the newlyweds, but the excitement distinguished when she realized something was wrong.

Zane entered the house looking enraged, and he went straight to his room and slammed the door. Xavi stepped out of the kitchen, worried because as far as he's concerned, Zane and Mae was together since the evening. He just knew something bad has happened.

"Hi, sweetie. Is everything okay?" Isla asked, welcoming her daughter-in-law with a hug.

"I have something to tell you, Isla. Do you mind if we talk privately?" Mae asked.

Xavi held back his curiosity and made way for the two women to leave. Mae brought Isla to her room, while Xavi head upstairs to check on Zane. He hasn't seen the guy that angry in a long time. Something must have gone terribly wrong. However, Zane refused to say anything or open the door even after Xavi annoyed him with endless knocking on the door.

After a short while, he heard Isla calling him from downstairs. Xavi gave up persuading Zane and head downstairs. He frowned when he saw Mae holding a bag.

"What is going on? Where are you going?"

"Don't ask," Isla clicked her tongue. "I need you to drive Mae to wherever she is planning to go."

"Can't you wait for tomorrow?" Xavi asked, "At least have dinner--"

"No, it's fine," Mae declined, "We had dinner before coming home. Don't worry about it."

Xavi sighed, holding the bag for her and taking it to his car. "Where are you going?"

"There's a motel--"

"A motel," Xavi exhaled, "Great. Now, what happened between you two?"

"I told him the truth. That's all," Mae didn't care to explain further.

"Alright, that makes sense," Xavi tilted his head. "Look, I understand that you have nowhere else to go, but can't we figure out some other place instead of a motel?"

"I don't have that many choices," Mae told him, "I'm just going to stay there for a few days until my friend comes home."

Xavi glanced at her, then looked back at the road, "Give him some time to cool down. Zane has not been this emotional in a while, I'm pretty sure that's a good sign."

"I don't know how that's a good sign, but I'm actually ashamed of myself right now," she muttered. "But it was going to happen anyway. I figured that it would be better for him to hear from me, than from other people. Zane would have found out from Isla even if I try to lie a little bit longer."

Xavi sighed, feeling awful that there was nothing he could do to make her feel better.

"He also mentioned divorce," Mae muttered.

"He did?"

She nodded, "I think it's for the best. I agreed to this marriage thinking I could make it work. It's safe to say I ruined my own plans from day one."

"Don't be too hard on yourself. Zane was wrong for leaving you at the wedding in the first place, and to be honest, he could have easily found you if he tried. He never tried, at least not hard enough." Xavi pondered, "Although I'm not sure if he wasn't trying because he's interested in Kate from the moment you two met."

"I doubt it," Mae hummed, "He's in denial."

"About what?"

"His feelings for Ruth."

Xavi exhaled calmly. Mae convinced him that the relationship wouldn't work. Since Zane was in a bad mood and Mae was not the type to get attached so easily nor does she seemed to have feelings for her husband, they would just become strangers again in no time.
