THE TIME OF YEAR has come around when school was back in session and Y/N and Jack were not looking forwards for the new semester to say the least and after 3 months of paradise they were ready to start the semester off fresh. That included getting Jack a backpack for the very first time.
"I'm know what you're thinking. How did a guy like me land a girl like her?" Jack asked a bright smile on his face as she looked at Y/N, "Well we get this all the time."
"We've been friends forever." Y/N continued.
"I've always had a crush on her." Jack chimes in causing Y/N to nudge him, "I mean even though I was in denial for a long time."
"But then this English exchange student showed up and stayed with my family." Y/N announced as she reached over and held onto Jacks hand. He absolutely hated Lucas and it was a little bit of a sore spot in their relationship, they usually preferred not to talk about it.
"They dated for a little bit, but he totally played her." Jack recalled, hatred burning in his eyes.
"Yeah, he didn't and he humiliated me by cheating on my with my friends arch nemesis Kimmy Stitcher." Y/N found herself clutching into Jacks hand tightly, a bit too tight for comfort as Jack pulled away from her slightly.
"But don't worry, I stepped in and I stood up for her, I took a punch to the face but it's no big deal." Jack was trying his best to be modest but unfortunately for him, that wasn't working. "It was a big deal."
"It was a big deal." Y/N assured, her grip loosening as she grazed her back of his hand with her thumb. "Yeah, he was the one who gave me the confidence to stand up for myself with the sweetest painting and that very same night, we kissed."
"But I freaked out and blew her off." Jack mentioned, looking down at the ground in shame.
"Yeah, that's sucked." Y/N sighed, "But at homecoming we realised that we were meant to be and consummated our feelings with a kiss under the stars."
"I did carry a milk-crate for half of my life so we could dance under the stars, the entire idea was to touch them but you can only get so close to a star." Jack chuckled lightly, thinking back to the time Y/N had told him her dream of being tall enough to touch the stars. Jodi shot down that dream with the complaint on her height but that didn't stop Y/N from droning on about it.
"And all of this happened three months ago." Y/N declared, reaching into her purse get her wallet out.
"And it's been bliss ever since." Jack added. "But unfortunately the milk rate is no longer with us."
"May he rest in pieces." Y/N commented, followed by a few seconds of silence out of respect to the milkcrate,
"That is why she's buying me a backpack for our three month anniversary." Jack declared, holding up the red backpack she had picked out for him. "Are you sure you don't mind us kissing on solid ground?"
"I'm sure." Y/N assured, "It's way safer."
Jack pulled Y/N in for a quick kiss before he realised that they had been ranting to this man for ages, "Sorry, we were just babbling."
"Yeah, what was the question again?" Y/N asked scratching the back of her neck awkwardly.
"What brings you in today."
"Well the backpack." Jack confirmed shuffling nervously as he now began to tighten his grip on Y/N's hand.
"Yeah, this one." Y/N announced placing the backpack down on the counter as she waited for the man to scan it. "You like this one, right?"
"Yeah."
"Okay." Y/N waited patiently for the man to scan it and when he was done scanning it, he placed it into a plastic bag along with the receipt. "Thank you."
"Have a nice day." Jack added but the man at the counter simply pulled a face and scoffed.
"That's was something." Y/N declared as soon as they stepped out of the store.
"Yeah, that was definitely an experience." Jack confirmed as he pulled out his phone after feeling a buzz in his back pocket. "Hey, Fareeda and Jodi are here getting ice cream, do you want to join them?"
Y/N nodded excited, her favourite ice cream place was around here.
"Only if you're buying." Y/N smiled up at him mischievously.
"I thought it was your turn to buy ice cream, I paid last time." Jack argued.
"Yeah, but I bought us dinner last time." Y/N reminded him.
"Oh, yeah." Jack recalled, it was last week when they ordered in, "Yeah, I remember. So ice cream is on me."
