“How dare you say that?” I yell, immediately standing up from my seat. I turn to walk away and say “I’ll be leaving in the morning!” I start up the stairs and in a distance you can hear him yell “Wait! But you can’t leave!” But I ignore him and go up to my room and throw myself on the bed. I then slightly look up and see the little girl waiting by the doorway. “Ohm, should I go?” she asks. “No. Stay. Sit over there on the couch,” I say smiling at her, pointing at the arm chair by the fireplace. She then begins to walk to the chair. “What’s your name?” she stops and looks at me startled. “I am Esmeralda.” She answers then continues towards the chair. “Mm. Esmeralda, what a beautiful name, might I say.” I compliment her. She looks up at me with her face slightly pink now.

“So are you a cook or something?” I ask. “No. I’m more of an understudy to be able to be a cook.” She says happily. “Do you like to cook?” I ask leaning forward into the question. “Oh yes. I love cooking,” Esmeralda says. “Actually, even before I was brought into this family. But I never got the chance to actually be able to cook until I lived here.” I look at her. She lives here with that guy? I stand up and walk towards her and throw myself on the love seat across from her. “How’s it like living here?” I ask. She leans back in her chair and slides down a bit. Looking up she says “Living here is like a dream. I get to do what I love most and that’s to cook.” She’s smiling now, why is that?  “Who do you cook for Esmeralda?” I ask wondering. “Master Martinez, of course!” she beams. I’m taken back by this. Master Martinez? Why would he have someone so young work here?  I stand up and motion towards the fire place. I bend my knees to start the fire. The wood then starts to burst into flames. I straighten myself out and walk towards the bathroom. “Ohm, Miss Charlotte?” Esmeralda tries to grab my attention. “I’m going to be taking my leave. So, if you need any assistance or just want to talk come to the room to the left of yours.” She stands up and walks to the door and stops. She looks at me and smiles.

“Good night Esmeralda.” I wave my hand to say goodbye to her and she walks out. I let out a loud sigh and began to open the window compartment next to the sink. “I wonder if there’s a tooth brush here.” I tell myself. I begin to move aside objects to finally have my hand meet with a box with a new tooth brush. “Yay! It feels like I haven’t brushed my teeth in forever!” I yell happily. There was a movement and slam of the door was made, I poked my head through the doorway to see who it was. “Well ‘ello darling.” My eyes open widely and I walk out the restroom with my mouth open. “W-what... what are you doing in here?” I questionably ask. He begins to express his amusement by chuckling. “My dear darling, this here...” he stops and brings both arms up and faces each side of the room. “...is my room. We will be sleeping together if you’re going to be my fiancée.” Fiancée? His fiancée? Ha! He must be crazy! “Fiancée? What are you talking about I’m only 18, Sage! I refuse to be married at such an age!” I shouted at him. He doesn’t make any sudden movements but just winces. He stands up from the bed and without me realizing he has taken swift movements to me. I begin to back up because he’s begins advancing towards me.

My head then bangs against the wall with a loud thud. Ah, I guess I’ve run into this one, I thought to myself. His hands then slam against the wall behind me. My body then flinches. His eyes aren’t his normal dull gray-green anymore... his eyes were more like a black orb now. His face was serious and he had this air around him that was dark. What is this guy? One minute he’s nice and then the next thing I know it he’s like... like this! I look up at Sage’s face and it’s now dark, disturbing, and unsettling.

His hand moves towards my face and hastily I close my eyes. “Did you hurt your head against the wall?” he asks in his almost suave voice. I open my eyes gradually but don’t want to meet with his face; so I turn away to look at my side. “N-no, I didn’t” I stutter. His hand then gently glides to my jaw and his thumb is now caressing my bottom lip and he brings my face to encounter his. My face then begins to feel flushed and I utter “Ohm, Sage? What are you doing?” Sage immediately gets rid of his hand from my face and backs away from me. I then motion toward the closet and looked at Sage. “Hey Sage,” I ask trying to get a hold of him. He looks at me his face flushed. “Is there any night gowns in here?” I indicate the closet so that he knows what I’m talking about. He nods his head and walks off towards the bed and sits. I smile at him then walk into the closet and close the door behind me.

I gently walked back into the room and go to the bed realizing that Sage fell asleep. I sit next to him and I look at his face. I lean in closer and move my hand to his face. I gently flow my hand across his forehead, I move aside his dark blonde and almost black hair. Suddenly my body is jerked to Sage’s. “Ah!” I shrieked. I looked down and see that it was Sage’s arm that had made me touch Sage’s chest. Just as I’m about to shout at him, I see that he’s still asleep. Right when I’m about to break away from his grasp he begins to growl. Shocked I don’t move and it causes for him to pull me deeper into his embrace.

Did he just growl? “Sage...” I murmur into his ear trying to wake him up gently. “Sage! Hey wake up; you’re kind of hugging me a little too tight.” His eyes begin to flutter open gradually, his eyes now meeting mine. “Charlotte? What are you doing?” he asked in a whispered voice; still charming as ever. “What am I doing? I’m doing nothing; it’s you who’s doing something.” I retort. He looks down at himself and realizes that he’s hugging me. He shifts upward and is staring forward. His arms begin to go over his shoulders and he begins to grip his shirt. “What are you doing Sage?” I asked. “What does it look like I’m doing?” he snarls at me and at that moment tosses his shirt off.

“Sage!” I yell. “What is it,” he asks. “I’m trying to go to sleep, but in this damn hot air it isn’t going to get any better.” I stop my frustration with him and notice that it is a little hot in here. “Ugh, fine! Do as you please.” I shout at him. His body suddenly stops moving, and he tilts his head back to look at me over his shoulders. His eyes now brownish gold for some reason, are looking straight through me. His body veers towards me now and he throws me down; my back now on the bed. I look at him and his face is above mine. “Sage...? What are yo--?” I attempt asking Sage but am abruptly stopped in mid-sentence by a soft, affectionate kiss. I am startled with this sudden act of affection so I try to bring up my arms to push away Sage. But at that moment Sage slams my hands down above my head with his hand. With the other hand he begins to caress my head.

His lips so soft against mine were like silk. He then began to slide his hand away from my face and sets it on my waist. “Sage, I repeat: What are you doing?” I demanded, my voice panting when I finally managed to pull away. Sage then freezes understanding what he’s doing and begins to shift away from me. Sage then lies beside me and faces his back to me. “I... I’m sorry.” He whispered. I look at him and feel flustered for realizing what had just happened. I sit up and look at the clock sat next to me on the dresser. 2:30 in the morning. ‘I guess I’ll go to sleep.’
