Dark Blood

I open my eyes to see a car ceiling. I turned to my side and sighed. I can’t go back to sleep. I sit up and look out the window to see that the car is moving. “Good morning Charlotte.”

I look towards the driver’s seat and see Edaniel smiling back at me. “Good morning Edaniel,” I reply. “Where are we?” “We’re back in Oklahoma, Charlotte.” “We weren’t in Oklahoma before?” I ask. “No, we weren’t.”

“Why weren’t we in Oklahoma before..? Where were we?” I ask.

“We were in New York,” Edaniel replies. “Why? Does it matter?”

Ignoring his question, I exclaim “Whoa! Why were we in New York??” he sighs. “We were there because the Kyūketsuki house is there. Now, are you done?” I was flabbergasted. I mean I really didn’t need to ask more questions. I knew who lived in New York, my whole family from my mom’s side so I shook my head. “Uh… so where are we now?” I ask. “We are back in Oklahoma.” He replies. “Really…? Well, that was fast.” He gives out an exasperated groan. “Well we did kind of take a plane here so… yeah.”

 “Oh,”

I wonder when that was… I mean I kind of fell asleep after being taken out of the house when mom was screaming at us for leaving on my “wedding day”. I just kept on telling Edaniel to ignore her though. He seemed to have a hard time figuring out on whom to listen to because his face was always scrunched up from thinking. It kind of made me want to laugh but I couldn’t because my eyes were getting really droopy even though I wasn’t even tired or anything. I was wide awake. But how could I not wake up from knowing I was on a plane?? And did he carry me all the way in an airport?

“You were asleep the whole time. You didn’t even flinch when we got on the plane and there were air turbulences.”

I looked back up at him, because I had been facing down while thinking. Well, he kind of got all the stuff I was questioning off my mind but one thing. How the heck was I in that kind of deep sleep?! I’m the lightest sleeper you’ll ever know. Once I woke up from my dad opening the door when I was little…. And he was being all sneaky, too. “Miss Charlotte. Are you even listening to me?” I blinked. He was talking?? When in the heck was he talking? He sighed heavily. “Your wolves appeared. I kind of feel awkward with them out… if it’s too much to ask…” he sentence drifted off. I looked to my left and right and saw Curt and Clare nuzzling there arm against mine, making me feel intensely awkward… but I actually felt right. I didn’t feel like I was jumbled up in the head or anything. “I’m sorry but I’m guessing they’re out right now because they sensed I was feeling bad,” I respond. “So… they’re staying.”

He grunts and looks away. Well then, don’t have to get upset about it. Gosh. “So,” I say trying to break the awkward off. “Are we almost home?” “No.” he replies. “Ah, well how far is home?” I ask. He turns to the right and we’re now in a parking lot in front of the Holiday Inn. “We’re staying in a Hotel?” I yell-ask. Mind-bottling things were in my head. “We’re gonna be in the same room?” I squeak. “We have to be, Miss Charlotte. We left in such a hurry I didn’t even get to bring a lot of money.” He replies. “But you had enough money to buy tickets for a plane?” I ask. “Err… well I wanted us to get here faster,” he says. “Well! Let’s go inside already and get our room.” “Curt. Clare. Come inside already… I’m fine, really.” I say. As soon as I finished my sentence, Curt and Clare disappeared into smoke and into me. Quickly he opens the door and runs to my side to open mine. Before he could, I open it and step out and slam the door closed. “Yeahh… lets.” I reply.  I walk off and go to the entrance the Holiday Inn.
