Something Moore (Chapter Sixteen)
“Charlotte! Wake up! We’re here!” Verande yells.
I flutter my eyes open and look at Verande’s face in front of mine. Everything was dark ad dimmed. The stars in the night shined so bright. Every constellation showing themselves to me.
“Hey! You’re finally up!!” she yells.
“Yupp! Now get out of my face!” I laugh.
I look out my window and see my home town Moore, Oklahoma. Tears swell up in my eyes. What do I do? Do I let them fall? Should I let them fall? I breathed in deeply. I shouldn’t. It’d only make Verande protective of my feelings.
I scanned my hometown. Beautiful trees, the greenest grass, beautiful skies, and the happiest looking people walking around. I mean it’s night time, but everything I just explained still applies.
I look at Verande. “How did ya’ll get here? You don’t know the address…” I asked.
“Well your wolf… Clare I think came out telling me where you live.” She replies.
“Oh…” I say. The car hits a stop and I see a castle. Old and rigid. I step out of the car and see an old lady outside wearing old Cherokee clothes. “Granny!!” I yell, waving my hands in the air like a mad-woman. Her head turns slowly towards me and she smiles her great smile. “Hello, Granddaughter.” She says as she stands up from her sitting in crisscross. I run to her slamming my body into hers.
“Oh, granddaughter, I haven’t seen you forever! Why have you not come to visit?” she asks me with concern in her voice. I squeezed her slightly. “I’m sorry Granny..,” I reply. “It’s just alotta things have been happening.”
Worry stretched upon her face. “What happened?”
“I’ll tell you once we’re inside ok?” I reassure her.
The worry in her face relaxes and she squeezes me back finally. Someone clears their throat making me turn to see the guys and my best friend. My eyes open bigger and I look at Granny. Just as I’m about to open my mouth to explain she lifts her hand up, shutting me up. “I understand granddaughter. Explain once we’re inside.” She says.
I smiled. She always knew what to say. “Okay guys! This here is Granny, but no time for any more introductions! Let’s get our stuff inside this castle!” I yelled. Verande laughed while the guys looked like I did something weird but I shrugged it off.
“Finally, we’re all done!!” I yell as I drop mine and Verande’s luggage on the floor. I look at my surroundings and find beautiful architecture and furniture. “Wow…” I say in awe. “Granny, the place looks amazing!”
“Thank you, granddaughter. It is something that your grandfather wanted in here.” She says with a sad tone. I look at her as tears stung at my eyes. I ran to her hugging her waist. “I’m sorry Granny.” I whisper. She pats my head, “It is alright, Charlotte. He is now with our Mother Earth.”
I look up at her smiling and nodding my head. I let her go and face my friends. “Well guys welcome to the Arkatt Family Residence!” I yell to them. I throw my hands in the air and spin in a circle.
“Cool. Now can we sit down and watch some TV?” Blake asks his face dry and not covered in a single drop of sweat like me and Verande. “I don’t know… Granny?” I asked. She nodded her head and led us to the living room with a giant flat screen. The room looked as if it could be a movie theatre. Blake and Edaniel walked to the front row of sits and sat down as Blake clicked on the TV. He flipped through the channels until he came upon channel 9.
The El Reno tornado was more than twice as wide as the May 3, 1999 tornado in Moore. The El Reno tornado stayed in a rural area but took a jagged path.
"To have it go east, southeast and then to make a turn and do a hard, hard hook, it doesn't happen like that very often," News 9 meteorologist David Payne said.
Payne and Bob Mills SkyNews 9 HD pilot Jim Gardner surveyed the damage and were amazed at what they saw.
"Just imagine if this would have been a city area," Garnder said while flying above the destruction path.
The tornado started at 6:03 p.m. southwest of El Reno. It was heading directly for Union City before turning toward I-40. It broke a world record just east of Highway 81 by reaching a width of 2.6 miles. It took 40 minutes before the tornado died down, just west of Yukon.
“Damn, imagine if that happened to us while we were driving here.” Blake barked out. “We would’ve been caught in that! We passed by that place.” I looked over at Granny who was still in the room with us; she had the same worried look I knew I had on too. Sebastian. My cousin on my dad’s side lives in Moore. What’s gonna happen to him and his family? I looked back at the screen.
They showed pictures of the rural land they lived on. The houses that were once stuck to the floor were now rooted out. The houses had been thrown around and broken into pieces. People walking around in despair, trying to find what has been lost. I felt sad. What if Sebastian was like that right now? What if Auntie Ann was even more sad that him? “Granny,” I turned to her showing the kind of despair I hated showing.
“I know, granddaughter. Let us leave right away to help our family get over the sadness that has been rained upon them.” She says wisely.
I smile sadly and nod my head. “Thank you Granny.” I replied. I looked at my friends. “Guys I’m leaving. I need to go and help my family that lives in the next town over.” I say to them. They all turn over in their seat and look at me. “I’m coming with you.” They all reply in unison.
They turn their heads and look at each other. Edaniel clears his throat and responds “Okay, then I guess we are all going with you.” I nodded and walked out the room and to the main hall to the front entrance.
