My New Profound Insight on Love
“Charlotte?” Curt looked at me while I just stared back. “Psst. Charlotte what’s this about your mate?” Verande asked me. “Uh,” I didn’t know what to say. I had just said it; I didn’t even know what I meant. I just knew it felt right to say he was. Suddenly, Curt stood up and said “I’m sorry, but I need to ask Charlotte something separately. Do you mind?” I got scared. Did he not like that I called him my mate? I mean, that’s what werewolves had right; Mates? “Sure thing hon. Go right on down there.” Mrs. Vernandez said as she motioned towards the hallway.
Curt grabbed my hands roughly and pulled me up to my feet. “Let’s go.” He said through gritted teeth. Instantly shivers were sent up my spine and he looked scary to me. His eyes were black orbs and he looked much older; stronger.
“Ok.” I squeaked. He was still holding my hand as we walked into the hallway and I heard Mr. Vernandez say “Are they having a lovers spat?” I hung to those words: Are they having a lovers spat, until I ran into Curt’s back. “Watch it; watch where you are going, my lady.” Curt growled at me. “Sorry.” I whispered. He sighed. “Whatever. Okay look Charlotte,” he began. “What you said back there wasn’t appropriate.” “What why? I meant what I said!” I threw the words at him, but they didn’t seem to do a thing. “Look, Charlotte. The word ‘mate’ isn’t supposed to be used with your wolf. It supposed to be for your one true love.” He said. “And if you were mine?” I asked. He stood there and looked at me with a blank face.
What was I saying? I’m telling this guy or uh wolf that I like him basically. “Then I could not say the same.” Curt said. Suddenly my chest was in pain and I was hurting badly. I squeezed my stomach in agony because it started getting worse. “Charlotte? What’s wrong?” he asked as he reached a hand towards me. “Get away from me!” I yelled. He backed away and his eyes got big. “Charlotte was I really your mate?” he asked. “I don’t know, but this hurts as hell!” I yelled back at him.
“What’s goin’ on back there?” Mr. Vernandez asked.
“Nothing’s happening sir,” Curt said aloud, but then whispered to me. “Charlotte, come here now.” He motioned me towards him and I did so. He hugged me tightly and kissed the top of my head. “What happened to you rejecting me?” I asked. “I am still rejecting you, but I am healing you with my own energy so the pain will go away.” He explained.
“But it still hurts Curt.” I said still hurting. “I’m not helping you? Not even a little?” He asked. I thought about it and he wasn’t. The pain was still as excruciating as before. “No. Not even a little.” I replied. I stagger away from Curt and start back to the dining room. “I need to go tell Verande I’m feeling bad.” I said. A hand placed itself on my shoulder and I looked back to see that Curt looked worried.
“What is it?” I asked. “Be careful,” Was all he said. I nodded and walked away and towards the dining room. “Mrs. Vernandez…?” I said, as I walked in the room. “Yes mam?” she asked suddenly her Okie accent intensified. “May I be excused from dinner? My stomach is getting a very bad pain, and well it hurts.” I explained. Mrs. Vernandez got up and said “Of course, Hon. If you need to rest, then rest for god’s sake!” she smiled and I did the same back. “Thanks ma,” I said. “You’re welcome, daughter.” She responded. I turned my back on them and smiled at Mrs. Vernandez calling me her daughter. I’ve basically lived here all my life because mom was never really home because of work. And since dad worked in the early morning and late night I would have to stay over here.
“Hey is Curt gonna stay over?” Verande yelled. I kept on walking but yelled back “Yeah! He came over from this town three hours away.” When Verande yelled back ok I was happy with myself for thinking something like that on the spot. I walked upstairs to Verande’s room when I noticed that my pain had gone away. “Charlotte?” Curt was standing in the doorframe of Verande’s room and I looked at him. “Yes?” I asked.
