XVI - "Idiot"

Third Person

Kaminari lied on the carpeted floor in Ashido's room, smoke coming out of his mouth as he gave Mina her Juul back to her. He stared up at the ceiling, trying to not close his eyes for too long.

"I know you're not okay, but you could've just burrowed it and done this in your room," Ashido said as she put the Juul to her lips, the smoke coming after as she put it on its charger.

Kaminari shook his head, his hair uncomfortably rubbing against the carpet. He kept staring straight at the light directly above him, the tears he was building up burning before they could come out.

He didn't smoke, at least not often. When he did, it's when he's overly stressed or fucking sad.

He got high a few times with Sero during their first year, but he never really liked it. It always felt weird to him.

Kaminari took a deep breath and turned his head to look at Ashido who was leaning onto the wall next to her bed.

"Heartbreak is the worst thing I've ever experienced," he whispered. Ashido looked away from Kaminari, a sorrowful look on her face.

"I know," she answered with a quiet voice, her gaze moving back to Kaminari, "but you have to deal with it. Everyone goes through that shit, you don't necessarily know it."

"Almost everyone," Kaminari added, thinking about his lucky friends, who managed to find their soulmates at such young ages.

Ashido sighed and nodded, "some people get lucky," she itched the top of her head, and flung forward, jumping up to stand. "Let's go."

"What? Where?" Kaminari sat up, his eyes starting to get used to the less bright lighting.

"I'm hungry," Ashido called, starting to walk out of her room, Kaminari standing up and following her. "You up for burgers?" she asked, walking backward to face Kaminari as they left for the hallway.

"Uh," Kaminari hesitated a bit and then nodded, making out a weak smile, "sure."

The two walked back into the dorms, Kaminari's previously saddened face turned into a happy one.

"Denki," someone said, disappointment vibrant in their tone. Kaminari turned his head to look at the person and his smile fell as he saw the very same person he's been avoiding for a week.

"Oh hi, Shinsou," Kaminari's voice cracked a bit as he said Shinsou's name. He plastered on a fake smile as Ashido walked on to their friend group, who were staring at the two, "how'd your confession go?"

"It didn't," Shinsou took a step forward towards Kaminari, which made Kaminari shrink into himself. "The idiot has been avoiding me."

"Why would he do that?" Kaminari asked, trying to act like a good friend, but ending up sounding really fucking stupid.

"Because he thinks I like someone else, doesn't he, Kaminari?"

Kaminari stopped his turtling and made a sound he's never made before. His face reddened and he shot his head back up, "what."

The Bakusquad silently held back their laughter, except for Sero who was trying to figure out what was happening.

"Wait what," Kaminari looked around the common room and just stopped and stared at the floor for a few seconds. He broke out of his trance after a few seconds with a slow blink. "What."

Ashido couldn't help it anymore and started laughing, Kirishima following right after her.

"No this isn't funny!" Kaminari yelled out, the siblings stopping. His eyes were filled to the brim with tears and looked down, letting the tears fall onto the floor. "You made me think I wasn't worth being loved."

Kaminari let out a sob and Shinsou walked forwards to wrap his arms around him, Kaminari stuffing his face into the insomniac's chest.

"I thought-" he struggled out, sobs and whimpers leaving his mouth, "I thought you were leading me on," his arms hung by his sides, Shinsou moving over his hands to grab the other's only for him to push it away.

Kaminari pulled away from Shinsou and looked at him and his friends, making a sharp turn and starting to run up the stairs towards his room.

"Denki--" Shinsou called out, watching as the blond ran away. "I fucked up, didn't I," he whispered to himself, the Bakusquad splitting up into two, one group to comfort Kaminari and the other to comfort Shinsou.
